The trouble is, while I can hear the ringing while placing a call, I cannot hear anyone at the other end when the call is connected.
...
I have Gizmo already (and don't see anywhere where that will allow me to subscribe to a 3rd party VoIP provider)

1. Is your router blocking any ports used to transport the call (e.g. UDP ports used for audio)
2. I have the Gizmo client on my N800 configured to login to my Asterisk server - there is an option when the Gizmo client starts to login to a 2nd account. You may want to try that.

I have used Fring on a N800 (not my favorite), you are not able to use it on N810?

But I simply can't get it work properly with my N810..
After what seemed like days getting the darn thing to connect to the SIP server (using Internet Phone) finally I get a connection..
The trouble is, while I can hear the ringing while placing a call, I cannot hear anyone at the other end when the call is connected.
Is there something stupid I have missed out when signing my device up?
Or is there a better SIP phone that I can install on the N810?
I have Gizmo already (and don't see anywhere where that will allow me to subscribe to a 3rd party VoIP provider), and Skype (same), but is there something else?
Oh, an don't get me started about the default contacts app on the N810.. what the heck is that about?? The thing is useless.. is there another DECENT contact manager available that I can either import or Sync from Thunderbird, Gmail, Hotmail, Messenger (ANYTHING WILL DO!).. but I guess I have to start another thread about that yes??
