unzip is a command line app. Go pickup xarchiver: http://maemo.org/downloads/product/OS2008/xarchiver/

I also found that unzip by itself doesn't support unzipping from File manager. Documentation said I also need Xarchiver. Maemo.org's link to Xarchiver is broken, but I found the application here:

https://garage.maemo.org/frs/?group_id=537

I downloaded Xarchiver but the installation failed, saying that I also need gnutar, unrar, and bzip2. Fortunately all of these applications can be downloaded from the web page reference above.

So I've installed FIVE applications in this sequence:
unzip
gnutar
bzip2
unrar
xarchiver

And I STILL can't unzip from File Manager. When I click on a .ZIP archive in File Manager a window pops up for 1 second saying "Xarchiver-loading". Then for a fraction of a second I see a blank white screen with the title "Xarchiver". Then it returns to File Manager, but the extracted files are NOT in the directory that contained the .ZIP archive. I searched for one of the files known to be in the ZIP archive, and it's not there.

What am I doing wrong? Do I really need all 5 of these programs to unzip?

I had the same problems. You have to install the command line version first, (unzip, etc.) which you've done. Then you have to add the devel-extra repository:
http://www.gronmayer.com/it/index.php?lang=en

search for devel and you'll find it. Download and install that.

Then open you application manager and refresh your list. You'll then find Xarchiver shown on the list. you can then install that and it will work as a front end tool for unzip, and others from the file manager.

I've installed all five files I've installed the dev thing. I've installed xarchiver and still I get the same experience.

I download the .zip file to the default directory "documents" I select the file to open it, Xarchiver loads a blank page without loading the zip file. I try to browse through the file tree xarchiver presents me and can't find the documents directory. I am very frustrated and want to sell my 810, help.

I want to import my google calendar into GPE calendar. It worked once under os 2007. Unzip appeared as an option under the tools drop down menu. It was simple, unzip the ical file import it into GPE and the world is a good place.

Then I got an update notification and installed os 2008 as directed to. Unzip no longer appears as a tools option and I have grown to hate xarchiver for teasing me with almost letting me unzip.

Can someone hold my hand through using xarchiver? Can someone explain how they import their google calendar?

Thanks in advance
