I have just managed to install the Palm Audible Audiobook Player software under the new Garnet VM beta 3. It hasn't worked with the previous versions. So far I have only played the demo files that come with the player. I'll try a full book when I get home.

The player is available here: Install from Mac - Install From Windows

To start it from the command line or Personal Launcher/Menu use:

/usr/bin/gvm/gvm -a ADBL -z 1.5

The AudibleAir application downloaded one of my books without a problem. The only issue was that I could only the first hour as I had the storage heap set to 16MB. We really do need access to the SD cards.

How did you go about installing it into GVM? I've never tested it before now, and I have no idea on how to get AudibleManger to recognize it etc. Any instructions would be greatly appreciated.

You can download the Palm installer from Audible and run it on your PC/MAC. The player will be installed on the next HotSync.

However, I've found it more reliable to install it directly from the device using the prc file extracted from the PC install. To save effort I've uploaded the file to drop.io

Go to http://drop.io/GarnetAudible and download the file that's there to your device.

Open the Garnet VM console and click install.
Select the downloaded file and click ok
After it completes you may need to refresh your icons from menu->tools->clean icons.
Select the Audible installer icon if it isn't already and click launch.
Again you may need to refresh the icons.

All is not totally rosy with this. My initial euphoria has been dampened by the fact that, more often than not, when I download some some of my content using the Audible air functionality all my installed apps disappear. This seems to be a common problem and is not restricted to the Audible Player.

Installing audio books via the PC using Audible Manager was a complete non-starter.
