Can anyone recommend a card reader to plug into my OS2008 N800?

In an attempt to connect to my Canon EOS300D and/or Fuji Finepix F31fd, I've purchased one of the On-The-Go USB adaptors, but cannot access either.

So I'm looking at the card reader route. It would need to be able to take >2GB CompactFlash and xD cards. I thought something like http://www.amazon.co.uk/SanDisk-Imag.../dp/B0007QU818 would do, but would I also need a powered hub?

Cheers in advance.

I know the following multi card readers work with my N810 without external power. They are the only type that I have so far been able to use. I can recommend Dealextreme. They are not quick but their prices are good and free shipping.
http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.5753
http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.8251
http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.7140
(and several others with different colors)
I have verified this with an SD and an SDHC in the SD slot with my N810.

If anyone knows a SINGLE SD/SDHC card reader that works without external power I would like to know. Thanks.

I have just returned from vacation, the N800 was a great way to keep in touch and upload photos to the web.

However one thing I would really like for it is a battery powered bluetooth card reader that will allow me to move photos from a Sony memory stick to the 8Gb SD card in my N800. I have found some bluetooth card readers but unfortunately they are all power by USB

Does anyone know where I can find a bluetooth card reader powered by battery?

Here is an example of one powered by USB connection :: http://usb.brando.com.hk/prod_detail.php?prod_id=00280

I have the same camera (Fuji F31fd) as the OP and have been searching the forums for any card readers which would work with just xD memory cards.

The suggested multi-card readers would be an OK alternative. But has anyone tested them with xD cards, or just SD and SDHC? The only reason I ask is that all of the xD card readers I've tried have needed too much power, even when they are of the same brand as SD card readers which work fine.

I know it doesn't answer your question, but as a data point, I can recommend against this

http://www.amazon.com/Memory-Reader-...8627789&sr=8-1
listed as "10-in-1 USB 2.0 High Speed Black Memory Card Reader Writer for SD SDHC MiniSD MiniSDHC MMC rsMMC."

since it doesn't work consistently with the N800. I knew I was taking a chance, but figured a single small LED wouldn't take much power to run. I have a Lexmark thumbdrive, (w/ LED), which works very well with the N800.

This reader was so cheap that I didn't regret it, it still makes transfer to PC easier, but would have been nice if it worked with the N800.

addisjon,

I Just saw your post and so I got out all the bits to check the xD card. I used a multi card reader identified in my post above.
I can confirm that a 512mb xD Card (Fujifilm) connects immediately. File manager starts and shows the card as expecerd. Hope this helps.
Cheers.

FWIW I also have a single xD card reader made by Olympus and it will not work with the N810.

Ah great info, thanks! I'll try one of those card readers then.

And I think I have that same Olympus reader, with the same luck .

One thing to keep in mind is that transferring lots of images over bluetooth will be excruciatingly slow...

I noticed that this reader at dealextreme that might fit your bill. I'm planning on picking up both of these to try them out. TX

Thanks. I did try this very model - doesn't work. I think I've tried about eight different types of single card reader without sucess.
