It appears to depend upon your entry point to the site. If you just go to www.facebook.com, the site tries to be clever and serves up a WAP page. On the other hand, if you go directly to a profile page (say, mine, for lack of a better example), the site works just as it always has.

EDIT: "...just as it always has" since they redesigned the site in such a way that they needed to provide pop-up help for every single component part so as to assist their mostly young, web-savvy audience in coping with the thing.

im saying that the entry marked with "default" or something like that will leave you with a blank, or near blank, user agent string.

and imo, pointing someone to a forum thread where one can find how to manually enter the info is a poor fix.

either "user agent switcher" should be pulled of the repo or someone should patch the issue, as it is right now it has potential to do more harm then good...

i was unaware of User Agent Switcher's "default" bug. thanks for clearing that up. it sounds like you've had a negative experience with UAS overall, but i'm sure plenty of people have had positive experiences, too. has anyone tried this with facebook? i'll give it a try when i get home....

i guess user agent switching isn't really a "fix" at all. it's a "work-around". but as far as work-arounds go, imo, it's simple and relatively easy to implement and/or reverse.

I've sent off a message to the Facebook staff about this problem. I suggest everyone else do the same. Let them know its not a small problem. I left a link to this thread in the message I sent the Facebook staff.

I have the same problem (using OS2007 on N800) -- it appears to be change in Facebook. To avoid facebook "helping" you and rerouting to WAP or mobile or whatever you can use this address "http://www.facebook.com/home.php" -- seems to work fine .... although when you click logout it goes back to the "vnd.wap.xhtml+xml" crap. Geeze Facebook.

Hmm, I clicked at the browser top menu entry and then on the facebook link, and everything works fine for me. N810, 4.2008.36-5.

I guess the problem is that if you go to:

http://www.facebook.com

Like I was it makes the decision for you, but as TSO points out if you go to:

http://www.facebook.com/home.php

All is good.

I got a reply from Facebook regarding this issue. No fix yet, but I guess they are at least aware of it.

I just ended up saving the home.php file to my documents. Then I opened the file, which launched a facebook mobile page in the browser. On that page I was able to click a link that set facebook back to regular instead of mobile.
