Hello,

I've had the Nokia770 for 5-6 months now and have successfully upgraded it to 1.2006.26-8 with this same windows XP box about 4 months ago.

Today I tried to use the Update Wizard again to try the new binary 2006.39-14. Now the wizard cannot find the 770. I get the "Device not found. Searching..." and then "Device not found. If you cannot see the USB logo..." Basically the wizard will not connect to the 770.

I searched this site and read through all the tips etc.. but am still unsuccessful at connecting. This is what I have tried:

* Battery fully charged (check)
* Battery charger disconnected (check)
* USB cable plugged directly into back of computer (check)
* Home pressed during power-up, USB logo in upper right corner (check)
* RSMMC is removed (check)
* Normal USB communications still work and can transfer files to and from the 770 RSMMC (check)
* MS .NET 2.0 framework installed (check)
* Security Update for MS .NET (KB922770) installed
* Security Update for MS .NET (KB917283) installed
* Tried repair of Nokia connectivity cable driver (no help)
* Removed and reinstalled Nokia Update Wizard (no help)
* Tried both USB ports (no help)

My machine is an AMD K6-300 running Windows XP SP-2 (hey it is still faster than the 770!) Windows auto update is on and the machine runs very well. All of my USB devices work just fine. As I do not have a Linux box, I am at a loss as to what to try next.

Does anyone have a suggestion as to what else to look for?

Hi dugby,

Same here, the install executable is version 11.50.0.42618 and size 3,481KB (actual file size is 3,564,042 bytes). After I uninstalled the original install wizard (same version by the way), I downloaded a fresh copy from Nokia and I get the same results with both.

When I attempt to run the wizard and then go to add-remove programs, under Nokia connectivity cable driver, it does not appear to have ever been used (it says used rarely), while the Nokia Internet Tablet Software Update Wizard says that it is used frequently. So either the wizard does not need the cable driver or it is having a problem getting to the driver??? I had removed both the cable driver and the wizard prior to installing a fresh copy. The wizard installation put both back on the machine.

Does your machine say that the cable driver was used?

Windows "Add/remove" says that the Nokia Wizard was last used ,.. when I actually performed the upgrade this morning.

However the Nokia Connectivity Cable Driver" does not report any last used information.

Well, sounds like yours and mine are similar, however yours works and mine does not...

Since I cannot seem to get the Nokia update wizard to work still, I guess I'll try and download the ubuntu 6.10 Linux iso and burn a cd to see if I can get it done that way. Hey if it works that way, maybe I'll give ubuntu a hard drive partition or two and make it a dual boot machine.

I sure hope Nokia enables future product to reflash the internal operating system from a binary on the MMC card. This is how we do our embedded stuff at work and it sure makes things easier!

Thanks again for your time... If you think of anything else... -Bill-

Darn, it's still a nogo. I was able to get ubuntu loaded on the machine, in fact I'm using it now... I tried the flasher-2.0 and it still does not work, now it says it cannot claim the USB interface. Maybe it is something simple this time... What a chore this has turned out to be

bill@bill-desktop:~/Desktop$ ./flasher-2.0 -F SU-18_2006SE_2[1].2006.39-14_PR_F5_MR0_ARM.bin -f -R

Finally success !

In case others have the same problem, I had to add sudo in front of the command line like this:

sudo ./flasher-2.0 -F SU-18_2006SE_2........

With ubuntu I guess root privileges are only loaned not owned... I'm used to very tiny linux distros where you are always root, this "sudo" is new to me... Oh well you learn something every day.

Still no idea why the windows Nokia wizard would not work... Obviously it is not hardware related. Nokia should think about being able to re-flash the 770 by just having the binary on the flash card, no PC, no USB involved!
