I've upgraded to 2.2006.39-14. Reinstalled xterm.

When I type a command line in xterm, and then use backspace, I expect the last character to be deleted and the caret to move one left. But now the caret moves one right, showing a square box, the character to the left is in fact deleted, but it still displays.

Do I have something misconfigured, or is this a bug with the new release?

I am relieved to learn that I'm not the only one experiencing this problem. It was when I was editing a script in vi that I first noticed it, and it obviously became very difficult to work around the problem. I do hope that someone with the necessary expertise is addressing this issue, and hopefully soon.

I had the same, but it disappeared after restoring my old /etc/apt/sources.list and run
apt-get install xterm

It updated xterm and a few dependencies plus a font package. Now it seems ok.

That worked great. I got my Maemo Repository back into the Application Catalog of the new OS, found there was indeed an update for Osso-Xterm and updated it. All does work fine now. Many thanks.

Thanks.

The "alternative installation method" described in http://770.fs-security.com/xterm/ seems outdated.

The application manager shows that osso-xterm 0.13 depends on http://repository.maemo.org/pool/mis...3osso2_all.deb and http://repository.maemo.org/pool/mis...sso2_armel.deb, but these packages cannot be installed alone.

So how does one fix this issue, with a clean install of 2.2006.39-14 and Xterm 0.13 ?

In the application manager, menu Tools > Application repository, add http://repository.maemo.org/ as a new repository (distribution: mistral, components: free), then choose update.

xterm will be updated.

Thankyou for this suggestion which I tried. The update attempts, but says it was unsuccessfull for the list. Yes, I was connected to the internet, and successfully surfing at the time of the update.

So osso-xterm is still creating the squares boxes, whilst doing a 'backspace'.

Any more hints and tips would be most welcome.

Thanking you kindly.

When I added my repository, I designated components as "free non-free," per maemo instructions, and it worked. Though don't ask me to explain what the "free non-free" designation means. Good luck.
