Hi there,

New member here from the Netherlands as I just received a N810 to use as a control unit for my Linn Akurate DS. I installed media streamer on the N810 and it seems to work, however for some reason most of the time the player stops after one song in the playlist has been played.

After a song has played, the title in the now playing tab switches to the next songtitle, and then the play/pause sign alternate one or two times. It ends up showing the play button (so it is not playing).

The files I am playing are FLAC files stored on my Thecus NAS. If I play a MP3 file I don't get this problem (at least I haven't experienced it yet, but truth be told I don't have too many MP3 files).

Any thought on what could cause this problem? If I use my PC to control the Akurate DS I don't get this issue so I deduce that the problem should not be in the NAS or in the Akurate. It looks like either the N810 or the media streamer application.

Any hints are much appreciated.

Kind regards,

Lennart aka DUCKy, after my 2003 Ducati Monster 1000 :-)

What happens if you play the flac files from the PC rather than the NAS is the problem the same? (What UPnP Server software are you using and where is it located PC and/or NAS)

What I am thinking is rule out the NAS/Flac combination being and issue as I assume from your comments that NAS/MP3 are fine.

I have seen this type of problem before where one type of audio file works fine and another does not, but cannot remember what are the key issues that can cause it.

It may be worth reviewing the Media Streamer bugs at https://garage.maemo.org/projects/mediastreamer/ for some clues but whilst Nokia have updated Media Streamer for OS2008 they have not been keeping the data topical/aligned at garage.maemo.org?

Another possibility is to contact the Project Admin visa.smolander @nospam@ nokia.com who has been very helpful in the past and may have some ideas.

Continue to post your experiences at ITT and we will try and help you.

MikeL,

Im am using Twonky Media 4.4.3 on my Thecus NAS. If I use my PC as control unit only (so I still play the FLAC files from the NAS on the Akurate DS) I am able to play the whole playlist. This tells me there does not appear to be a FLAC/NAS issue.

I will try putting a few FLAC files on my PC and stream from there to see if that changes anything.
I will also check out the Media Streamer buglist for more info....

update: One bug reported was that the playlist stopped using media streamer with O2008 when the screen on an N800 went to low(er) power mode. It related to someone using the Linn Klimax DS (mmmm, sounds familiar). The hint given was to check the connectivity settings. Just to be sure I checked my settings. I have the setting suggested (unlimited).

Thanks for the reply!

Kind regards,

Lennart

Quick update....

Apparantly the problem is related to Twonky on my Thecus NAS. I installed Twonky on my laptop and voila, no more problems.
With the laptop as media server, I can use the N810 exactly as I want it, I also see album art (which I didn't see before) and playlists play all the way through to the last song (as they should).

Sorry to say that even though I have found the problem there does not appear to be a solution. The Twonky Module for the Thecus appears to function slightly different from regular Twonky. I am sure most people have no problems, but I unfortunately do. So I might have to 'downgrade' my Thecus nas to another NAS, for example a Netgear ReadyNAS......that should solve the problem.

So, no direct N810 problem it turns out, pfew....

According to the LInn Installation guide, there could be three reasons for this problem.
1. The ethernet idle time is too short - Select "connectivity" (in Nokia OS2008, select network icon in top right menu bar; select connectivity setting; click on "idle times"; change WLAN IDLE time to "unlimired" ans OK. In 2007, select "Settings" > "Control Panel" > "Connectivity"; click "idle times" and continue as above.

2. If you have more than i wi-fi network, the Nokis may have change networks. Ensure that you only use 1 network, or change the Nokia- connectivity-general search interval to never"

3. The Nokia is powered off or the media streamer software has powered down.

Hope this helps

Linnuser,

Thanks for the reply. I have checked the settings you suggested and I have only 1 wireless network.

It all boils down to the fact that the TwonkyMedia module for my Thecus NAS is not identical to regular TwonkyMedia. I now use TwonkyMedia on my laptop with the same settings, network etc and I have no more issues. I am looking to buy a new NAS with preinstalled Twonky which should work.

Kind regards,

Lennart

Since it works with the PC, you seem to have a DHCP server in your network. So did you think about switching the DHCP server in your NAS off, so it can't conflict with your existing DHCP server?

DHCP is switched off in my thecus nas.....

Difficulty with this issue is that it 'almost' works but not quite.
If I use the Thecus Nas, I am able to play music, but I get freezes and for some reason the album art isn't visible. Same setup om my laptop works just fine. The NAS was replaced with a new one just to see if that resolved the problem, but no, it didn't. I checked all cables and connections. It has to be Twonky related (in combination with the Thecus NAS). I contacted Twonky for a possible solution but they stated they only focus on the preinstalled Twonky Nas devices. Twonky on a Thecus NAS is not supported.....

Kind regards,

Lennart

hey ducky, did you sort this out? I have a Linn Akurate DS with the same issue and the same NAS. Im using a Thecus PRO 5200 and the UPNP software is junk!

All my mp3 files work fine, all wavs work fine but some FLACs just dont play at all.

Im using Tversity on my PC with a map to the Thecus, Twonky on the Thecus is self is terrible..

Ive ordered a N800 and just wondering how its going? please dorp me an email or PM if you can

Thanksl
