E71 + N810 = all you can eat data for $15.

Yummy.

For those of you in metro NYC using AT&T 3G, what kind of network speeds have you been experiencing lately? I've read reports that AT&T's 3G network quality has degraded with all of the new iPhone 3G users in the region.

I'm considering moving to AT&T due in part to greater unlocked 3G phone choice (i.e. more than T-mobile's zero), and better rural service when on vacations and the like. But when I'm back in metro NYC, I tether only occasionally and the EDGE speeds I'm getting on T-mobile where I am seem reasonable for that light use. If AT&T 3G speeds are only marginally better, then it might not be worth it for me.

I have been using the At&T 3G for connectivity on my N810 - and while sometimes it seems slow (not anywhere as slow as EDGE (which I had tried before with a EDGE phone) it is fast for most purposes and most days.

The extra network traffic due to all the 3G iPhone users may be the reason for latency issues sometimes, but I dont think it has downgraded the bandwidth in any drastic way.

Edit : Nowadays I use the same AT&T 3G network from Baltimore (where I work these days) and certainly in Baltimore my 3G works noticably faster and than in New York and faster for most of the time (so you may have a point there again).

Don't forget about Sprint. You can get a standard voice plan and add data, or Simply Everything for unlimited everything (including 3g) $99/month. They have some slightly cheaper data-only plans or plans with unlimited data but not voice, too. Of course Sprint is CDMA (EV-DO Rev. A), though...

I believe Sprint claims it costs $15/month to tether. Not sure... I tether my N810 without paying extra, though, and no problems yet.
