I got an N800 today from ebay. I turned it on to check the battery level, which was fully charged according to the indicator. I played with it awhile, then went to the computer to update to OS2008. After connected it to the computer and turning it off, following the instructions on the wizard. Then, it wouldn't turn on again, even after disconnecting it from the computer. I tried to charge it (I was going to anyway since it says you need a full battery) but I did not get any progress indicator. I disconnected the battery for a few mnutes as said on this forum, but that didn't help. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

I'm not sure I can help you, just two questions to clarify the situation:

- You didn't even try to start the upgrade process, it isn't?
- When you press the power on button, can you see if the light around the directional button blinks?

If it blinks but the device doesn't power on usually it means the charge of battery is insufficient.

I had the wizard open, but didn't go past the first screen (where it tells you to connect the tablet and turn it on in USB mode).

The light does not blink, and I left it plugged into the charger for an hour, but it didn't have any effect.

There are some voodoo magics described in the forum and concerning a fridge ;] Not sure it will work though, someone to confirm the method?

The voodoo magic worked
It's charging now... I plan on immediately upgrading to OS2008 when it's fully charged.

Oh. I've got the same problem.
Nokia N810, with lastest Diablo + updates and other packages.
Last night I was in airport waiting for my parent's flight.
I was browsing Wi-Fi, watchin TV (thru Wi-Fi), listening to music and browsing the flight information (heh, I was too lazy to go to check airport monitors, so I was sitting and browsing airport's website by my Nokia N810, that's why i love it )
The flight has delay so I had to entertain for one more hour. My battery shows still (less than 1 hour). No problem - when they landed I clicked the awfully small power button and select 'Power off!' and then I puted it in case in my pocket.
After we go home I just plugged the charger and I quickly notice that I didn't see "charging icon/text" but I thought that it's not problem, because the battery need some charge to startup LCD or something (you know...like some mobile phones).
This morning I was terrified when I didn't see any signs of loading of my device...no LED no LCD - nothing.

I've tried with no success:
1. Removing the battery for 5-10 minutes
2. Pushing on/off button for more than 40-50 seconds.
3. Quickly pushing on/off button - 20-30 times....many times.
4. Gently pushing on/off button.
5. Everything from 1-4 with and without charger plugged.

There is absolutely no signs of charging/booting etc...
No corner color LED, No LCD display, no sounds...
Then I started to read all the topics in here about 'no boot', "don't off", "off now can't on" and there was hole book about this issues...but I didn't any solution.
I tried with plugging the USB to my PC to test if it is completely bricked or something.... I plugged in and it shows two new devices...on...and off....and again...this pop-ups every 10-15 seconds. But the LCD display and LED didn't show any sign of activity.
Then I tried if the Nokia Flash wizard recognize it. The wizard correctly recognized it and says 'Nokia n810'.
Then it says that I have the latest version...but if I want...it can re-flash it again. So I decided to try it...risky...(I don't know how much battery i have) but...I tried... The wizard downloads the latest binary and flashed it successfully. Then I tried to on/off but - still there no sign of life... I started to think, that my display is broken somehow, but I didn't get the "ding" sound on boot too. Next I tried with 'freezing' solution....I tried with 3 minutes - didn't work, I tried with 5 minutes - didn't work too.
The only sign of life that I notice it is when I slide out the hardware keyboard sometimes (in the on/off button "game")
I can see that the keyboard light is fading in/out about every 10-15 seconds...which I think is the same as the USB period...for 'connected' 'disconnected' message when USB is plugged in PC.
Then I suspected my charger, then I tried with my phone charger - it's Nokia too and has the same specifications - Output DC 5V/890mA. No signs of charging...or booting...etc..
I tried again with flashing. It was flashed again successfully with latest Diablo...but no difference at all. It looks like a bricked...;-(

Today I left my battery out - this is my last hope. If it didn't help I'm really running out of clues what happened. The problem is that unit is from UK, and I got it from eBay...in excellent condition. So I cannot go to service. It worked perfect for week until today. I don't know what can be the reason. Is it possible for slide on/off keyboard to cut some wires, LCD's for example. Yesterday I had some 2-3 times that the hw keyboard didn't opened so easily, but then it worked again...and I don't know....anyone have some idea what happenned?

No, you don't...

The problem he had was specific to the N800s, and to old OS versions. You have neither. Which is really quite bad news, because while the non-booting glitch for N800s was fairly widespread, it was also 100% curable.

With your problem, alas, it could be anything.

How long have you left it on the charger? It looks like maybe the battery just drained (maybe it got turned on in your pocket or something) far enough that it can't even boot, but keeps trying (every 10 or 15); if so, leaving it on the charger for a few hours, even though it doesn't show anything, might bring it back out.

As for hardware damage from the slider, I don't know, but it's possible. And if so, it might even be only a loose cable. But I'd expect the system to boot; the obvious flexes between the slider shouldn't cause your symptoms, so I don't think that's likely. I'm really armchairing it here, though, as I don't even have an N810.

MiCRoPhoBIC: I believe you did somehow broke something in your tablet... It seem that the tablet does boot up properly since you can see it from your PC. If it was not booting up it will not show up as USB device.

EDIT: You said it comes and goes as USB drive? This may be caused by a "reboot loop", but since you were able to flash it successfully this problem should have gone away. Unless there is some watchdog that reboots the tablet after certain time period due to malfunctioning hardware...

You may want to open it to check if you can find loose connector or broken cable etc... This link has all the documents you need how to open the tablet. (And troubleshoot it further if you have the electronics skills and equipment... )

@Benson: I left it this night on charger for more than 6-7 hours. I'm not sure about battery...so sudden drop and no blue LED light on pressing on/off button. I don't have spare battery to test it.

@Mara: Yes if I just connect it to PC it didn't showing up. But if I press on button.
The messages are:
Device inserted:
Nokia BB5 ADL Loader USB Generic

USB Device inserted:
Nokia BB5 ADL Loader USB Phone Parent

and right after them:

USB device unplugged
Nokia BB5 ADL Loader USB Phone Parent

Device unplugged:
Nokia BB5 ADL Loader USB Generic

this repeats every 25 seconds...
It didn't loop forever...it cycle for few minutes...and then stop to pop-up this USB messages...

Probably I can reflash again.... but this isn't solving anything...
Well....I should get my torx screwdrivers again and open it to check for some easy to spot problems. Duh... my Nokia phone (5610MusicXpress) was broken a month ago (distorted image)...and I decide to try to repair it myself....I ordered a new LCD, found a two movies how to dis/assembly it and it turns out that the problem was the LCD itself, not flex cable...so I replaced it and it's working now. I don't know if someone sell parts for Nokia N810 on eBay? I found none?
So even I found the problem....is there chance for ordering parts for this beauty?

P.S: @Mara: Thank you for the instructions....this night is mine....wish me luck... ;-)

YES YES!!!
I found the problem. The flex LCD cable was disconnected and very strange folded under. This explains everything. This explains the little resistance with sliding keyboard just when it stops charging. There is also some little clicking noise...when sliding...I didn't know if it exists before..but now now disappears - so I think that this was the click of the folding cable folding not in place.

When I separated the two main parts the cable didn't connect them, because there was no need to unplug it. I pull it back over again and connect it. reassembled and it started. Well...I'm now flashed..but..nevermind...it works again...and I have fresh backup. Restoring now... Here are my photos of the procedure...If someone have my problem/symptoms - to know how to resolve it:

@Mara: I owe you a case of cold beer...If you travel to Bulgaria some day...call me
