After news about Nokia N810 Wimax Edition being discontinued they're being sold on eBay for at least 250 USD, but doesn't seem to go beyond 300 USD. Second hand. Note these chips use 2.5 GHz spectrum; doesn't work everywhere; e.g. Europe uses mostly 3.5 GHz.

Be sure you know what you're buying and are aware of the differences with normal Nokia N810.

These I found approx 15 minutes ago:

YMMV!

Getting a Nokia N810 WiMAX is actually a good deal. Like the original Nokia N810, the WiMAX Edition can enjoy all the benefits of 802.11g (WiFi), but also use 2.5Ghz WiMAX (where available). If I were trying to get a N810 at this point, I'd favor the WiMAX Edition over the original. I'm trying to get my friends and co-workers to snag them as they become available (and the prices drop).

I just checked Newegg and found ironic that the regular N810 is sold out, while the N810 Wimax is in stock available... the price was $399, so not really attractive? I would have thought Newegg had pulled the N810WE?

EDIT: I found the N810WE from buy.com and amazon.com as well... price was even higher, though.

This was what I was hoping at least. I am in the DC area and have a XOHM/ Clear acct. Whats nice is XOHM clerks have told me that as long as you have a Mobile Device acct you can switch back and forth online without any problem. So I can go from USB Modem to n810WE and be quite setup. I have a n810 but woould love to get the steal deal on a n810WE so lts hope they keep dropping. LOL. As long as I can get out of my standard n810 and get into a WE and break even I will consider it Mission Accomplished!

I'd buy a W model, even for the uk, in the hope that even (when) if wimax fails, I could swap the wimax module for something else!

@ Mara these are new devices though. They're all being called back, so it is unclear how long these will be sold.

A few days ago these devices weren't sold on eBay though. I've never seen 'em sold there, and I search regularly.

Is it hard to take out the WiMAX module? What protocol does it use to talk with the OMAP2 hardware? With what can you replace it with?

In EU they don't use 2.5 GHz, they use 3.5 GHz. Read on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...MAX_networks#U at UK entry it doesn't mention 2.5 GHz; only 3.5 GHz, 3.6 GHz, and 3.8 GHz.

For me, the WiMAX module would be useless because there is no WiMAX with 2.5 GHz rolled out anywhere near me.

However I love the way N810WME looks (black with orange). A truelly great combination.

They're sometimes going for more than 300 USD (350 I've seen), bidding, with 1 day left.
