I've been trying to figure out how to connect my N800 to the internet via my metropcs phone.

The phone is a Samsung SCH-R210; the N800 is running OS2008.

I have gotten the two devices on speaking terms; they are connected via bluetooth and I am able to access the phone's directories via the file browser on the N800.

I am at a loss for the next step. I found the website shown below, but I don't understand how to create the required connection. Also, do I need to unlock something?

Thanks in advance for your help.

That phone wont work. It needs to have Bluetooth DUN or PAN which it does not.

I go to http://www.phonescoop.com and sort the phones by carries and open up their specs pages. The site lists the Razr and Kyrocera Mako as "Data Capable" (by USB). The Razr and Rokr are the only ones I know of that support Bluetooth DUN.
