okay - that's driving me nuts

no file manger nor less -a does display any of the hidden files ( as root ). the thing seems to be rather "user-save", but how am i gonna configure any stuff like the /etc/openvpn/.conf without access?

is there anything i can chmod or s.th.?

thanks again!

lo-jay,

I think you need to issue:

ls -a

How so? Do you get an error message? Are you just not seeing dot files in one particular directory? If so, are you sure there are dot files in that directory? Try entering "touch .delete-me" to create a test file there.

I tried with my n810, and I don't have any problems using ls -a to view hidden files. I completely agree with sjgadsby, try creating a hidden file in known location and try using ls -a.

I used your example and installed openvpn - when I navigate to /etc/openvpn - there were are no files listed in that directory.

Start with sjgadsby's post first, and if that fails - the question would be have you tweaked / modified anything on your system that would fundamentally break viewing hidden files (not sure how).

You may also find emelFM2 interesting. It';s a GUI file manager that does display hidden files.
