First of all thanks for all the help. I been lurkin on the forum for a while but I just received my n810 yesterday and I flashed it to diablo today

Few things:

The update seemed impossible and I had to download the file manually after the update software wouldn't sync with my computer because the clock time was off.

I have everything running now and I just installed skype through the n810 when connected through wifi. The version on the skype website seems older than the one you download through the n810 directly.

I'm impressed with skype so far. I was actually considering buying an ipod touch but it doesn't have a real gps like the n810 does. When I first saw it on slickdeals for $220 I had never heard of it and I did some research on what the n810 was here. After I had found out it could do pretty much what the itouch could it was already sold out- luckily it came back a week later.

So yeah I'm using skype now with skypein & skypeout for 2.95 a month unlimited calls which is awesome. The one thing I notice is that I don't have the alternate numbers for my contatcts on my n810 skype. When I use skype on my pc I can see the mobile, home and work numbers for each contact but on the n810 it just shows one number. Also fring doesn't work with the skype voicemail and I don't know of a sip provider that offers voicemail.

Anyone know how to solve this?

Also can I check my voicemail from my n810?

I dont use it often - but gizmo will forward voice mail to your email box and then you can open in and play them on your n8xx - I've use the webmail and it works as long as the .wav file has an app linked to it like mplayer/kmplayer...

Use Skype a lot - but not for those features.. mostly voip and im.

Ah thanks for the reply I was just looking at Gizmo5. Its the only client that works with the camera on the n810.

I just want to use the n810 as a phone for my office or when I travel. The problem is I like skype but I don't see the option for additional contact numbers on the n810 client.

Only on the pc version does it,- it allow me to add multiple numbers per contact.

Can anyone with Gizmo5 confirm that the mobile client for the n810 has the ability to have multiple numbers per contact? Also do you use the Gizmo5 client or the SIP manager that comes with the OS. That contact manager allows for multiple numbers for each contact.

I kinda wish I didn't pay all that money up front for skype to get a discount XD

Some of my gizmo contacts have more than 1 phone number - so likely that is dependent on what your contacts publish. There were reports of gizmo/sip working with the built in internet call client - but I could never verify.

The video camera does work with internet call client to gtalk to other n8xx's with gtalk. Also the same client will send video to pc/macs with sipbusters recommended client.

No easy answer eh?

Looks like I have to go to gizmo. That was a costly mistake using skype- I ended up spending 30 bucks but meh I guess now I know.

It seems the skype client on the n810 doesn't have a setting for voicemail? Like if I'm signed in and I don't answer it doesn't go to voicemail. So I can't really use it as a phone.

What I mean to ask is if I add a contact to my contacts list in gizmo and this particular contact doesn't use gizmo, but this contact has a house, cell, and work phone I can store and choose one of the three numbers from his contact information?

Also using the gizmo client on the n810- if I don't answer will it automatically go to voicemail?

And finally can I get a local number to use?

Sorry for bumping

I bought a Gizmo call in and call out plan and it does everything skype doesn't (not to mention lower cpu usage and video support). Their n810 app is far superior to skype and the voicemail and multiple numbers per contact work. I'd recommend them to anyone having a problem with the skype app on the n810.

They can even port your current number too or give you a local phone number for people to call you.

Thanks for the help

Does Gizmo5 support Diablo? Its official site states it supports Chinook.

Another point in Gizmo's favour is that it's able to do DTMF (touch-tones) while navigating calling trees (you know, "press 1 to go endlessly in circles...") I couldn't get Skype to do that - and it appears that this is a known issue, and that Skype really, really doesn't care about their mobile (N810) client. Yeah, I wasted money on Skype too.

Yup, they don't care about N810 that much. Unlike you guys buying the skype credit to test out, I already purchased the Unlimited World plan to call my girlfriend in Japan. So it didn't really matter to me. However, I do want to point, the voice is crystal clear when I use N810 to call her comparing to using my laptop with the microphone. I assume N810's microphone is better than the one I have.
