Ubuntu 8.10 has known issues with bluetooth obex, which weren't there on 8.04..
In order to send files from the ubuntu machine to the tablet, use the send file command you can find by right-clicking the bluetooth icon on the gnome panel (assuming you are using gnome). Right-clicking a file icon and seledting "send to" won't do.
To be able to receive files from the tablet to your ubuntu box, you must install and run gnome-obex-server.

For Ubuntu to receive files via bluetooth from the tablet install "Bluetooth File Sharing" found in Ubuntu Add/Remove. This is actually the gnome-obex-server.
