@Fragos

I think I may have figured out my problem. It seems to me that your "How To" is ambiguous as to whether A-GPS is for only the N810; I have an N800. (If that's the problem, it probably seems obvious to anyone who understands what A-GPS is doing; but just reading the How-To, to an N800-owner it seems like it could possibly help get the bluetoothed GPS fixing faster, also.) My bet now is that my dumb error was trying to install it on an N800 in the first place.

The ambiguity exists because I have no personal experience with other than an N810 and it's internal GPS. For now I'll make that clear in the Howto. I'd like to aquire a separate bluetooth GPS reciever so the HowTo can be specific in it's use as well. I'd appreciate hearing from anyone with hands on experience with a bluetooth GPS reciever.

I am having the exact same problem.
I tried to install agps and it told me there was a dependancy on supl-daemon. I tried to install both .28 and 27 with no success. I am running Diablo on an N810. Any other suggestions?

Install A-GPS from application manager and it will work.

Instructions at http://fragostech.com/MaemoMapper/ are wrong saying that you should manually download .deb and install it. It will not work, unless you had A-GPS previously installed. Install A-GPS from application manager and it will work.

I certainly want to correct any errors I've made but don't understand why installing a .deb package directly is any different than installing it with the application manager. Application Manager, apt-get and dpkg all use the same package database on your system. Please help me to understand. I'm open to having errors in what I've said pointed out but would appreciate being informed more directly so I can take action.

installing A-GPS directly from .deb will not work, because it needs supl-daemon. Supl-daemon is not going to be automatically installed, unless A-GPS is installed from application manager or with apt-get.

You can test this with first removing A-GPS (and supl-daemon). Then try to install A-GPS directly from .deb. Besides using application manager is much easier than crawling manually through package repositories.

When you install a .deb file direction, there is no dependency management. Direct .deb installs should be avoided wherever possible, as they're unkind to users and generally less clean than installing from a repository directly.

Not exactly. apt fetches packages from repositories and resolves dependencies, but when you install .debs directly with dpkg (or h-a-m) you're bypassing all the niceties of package management.

Thanks for straitening me out -- my confusion on dependency management between the various tools is the issue. I'll make some mods to my HowTo to insure a better outcome for my readers. I cant't find which repository supl-daemon is in -- probably looking in the wrong places. I for one wish for fewer repositories or at leat someplace to look for packages accross available repositories. http://www.gronmayer.com/it/index.php is helpfull but for example is unaware of supl-daemon.

Can anyone tell me what repository to set so I can see and install A-GPS and supl-daemon, I have read every post I can about this and they are not in my 'Installed Apps' list, and do not see them in the installable apps...
HELP

Both agps and supl-daemon are in the maemo Extras repository. Rather than installing a deb package as I suggested in the Maemo Mapper Howto, add the maemo Extras repository and install a-gps with the Application Manager and supl-daemon will be installed as a dependancy.
