Please read my suggestion again. It definitely worked for me. All you have to do is use the File Manager to move the entire top-level "maps" directory from the internal memory to the removable card and the Map applicatoin will work properly. Try it and let us know if you find otherwise.

Close all applications. Open the file manager (Utilities -> File Manager). You will see top level directories for "Nokia N810" (the Device memory), the "Internal memory card" and the "Removable memory card". Use the stylus to drag and drop the "map" subdirectory from the "Internal memory card" to the "Removable memory card". It will take a while, but when it is done you can open the "Map" application and it will find your maps properly.

Worked for me also.... What's with only two map sets for the US. They could break that down a bit. 700+ mb is alot to chew. I hope this is an archive of smaller files for the device. I haven't looked at the architecture of it yet. First GPS for me.
This is kind of a bunk step to have to take for a linux machine. I should have a gui drop down or a text config file that could just point to the external card... any way.
