Just found a perfect example of what I'm talking about. Geeks poking around in the code and getting a good understanding of what is to come. This is, in many ways, better than waving a device around on stage.

(found via the Fremantle wiki entry, which has some very informative timeline stuff in it)

The WiMAX Edition went official at WiMax World in Chicago - September 2007.

In any event, I think you have to disregard it in the pattern analysis as it was a one-off version closely linked to Xohm. In fact, there was a joint Sprint/Nokia press release of the WiMax internet tablet development in early 2007 when Xohm was cranking up.

Looking through bluez:audio/telephone-maemo.c from the SDK also reveals interesting features, such as:
  • Inbound voice calls
  • Conference calling
  • GSM, GPRS, EDGE and HSPA support
  • and lots of other little bibbly bobs

Whether all of these would appear in the "Maemo 5 lead device" (aka RX-51), we don't know. But companies generally dislike writing code which is never used :-)

Based on certain comments from Nokia about smartphones and Linux, I think Maemo with cellular voice is inevitable. I don't think it'll be this generation, however.

I'd rather take a look at the "CSD call plugin" referenced at the start of the file, as the bluez stuff might relate to tethered operation (which would be cool, too, but not the real thing). Then again, if I just said something extremely silly, feel free to disregard me

Not only is it a mockup, it's a serious contender for the MHKEIHOEINKTIAA.
