Yes, they do that all the time. Prices went down then back up. It is not $219 anymore and they don't have the N810s in stock.

But many places still have around $220 still.

I wonder how much the 810's price will drop once the 900 hits the market

From the N800 -> N810 transition, I'd say N810s might drop to 200, but that's all. Of course, this will be a substantially bigger advance, and the N810s seem to be out of production, so maybe nobody will have stock at that point anyway...

(Oh, and BTW, calling it N900 is likely to be wrong, and create confusion. While calling it RX-51 is not really more helpful than calling it N900, since it won't be marketed under that label, it is accurate, and doesn't risk causing confusion when Nokia does release something entirely different as a model 900 or N900.)

Wait, the next tablet won't be named the n900? Then what's the new proposed name? And why not a sequential name if it's essentially the next step in the n7xx-n8xx progression?

First, the 770 was not an N-series device. There's no unambiguous progression from 7710 -> 770 -> N800/N810 -> ??? to know what the next device is, so I'd consider any particular guess likelier to be wrong than right. (IIRC, the most popular guess for the N800's name was 880, and the N caught everyone by surprise. N900 was floated as a name for the N810.)

I don't think Nokia is likely to let the model number slip before an actual announcement, but thanks to the pre-alpha and alpha SDK releases, we know Fremantle initially contained support for a hardware platform named RX-51 and support for an RX-71 is being added. (For comparison, N800 is RX-34, N810 is RX-44, and N810W is RX-48.) It's logical to assume the RX-51 is the lead device, although there's a very slight possibility it actually is some Nokia internal testing mockup.

Do you think the newer device will have worse battery life and if not do you think it will be larger/heavier?

I was checking around, and Amazon has a couple for $260. I know that's a bit high, but if the walmart ones run out, at least Amazon has a few.
