good calendar/todo/notes/contact system that is easy to sync with a linux desktop and works offline. I dont want to use a closed third party system like google, but dont mind running my own sever software.

I think most of the pieces exist, GPE/pimlico on the N800, evolution/mozilla on the desktop, conduit etc. but they don't seem to have been brought together.

I would love to see alexandria ported to the tablet. Then I can have my book list always with me!

I'd like to see a lot of the newer stuff backported to the 770 running OS2006. I have a pair of them, and with the current economy they won't be getting replaced soon. It's hard enough to pay bills.

An ftp server for the 770 would be nice, I guess. And some easy way to launch shell scripts (so I can quickly run GVM apps) from icons on the OS2006 destop. There aren't as many launchers for the 770, and so far I've not found one that allows for the arbitrary launching of shell scripts. If there is one, please let me know!

The economy doesn't hinder upgrading to OS2008HE , and you're a lot more likely to get things tweaked (where needed) for OS2008HE compatibility than ported to OS2006. Most of the developers who have 770s seem to be running OS2008HE themselves, and it's less trouble regardless.

(I'd bet even 2007HE, if you can't stand 2008 for whatever reason, has substantially more current stuff available. Still not good odds of new stuff being backported.)

If you have OpenSSH, then you have an SFTP server...

Oh and Gimp's interface is fine on the tablet, especially once you've played with the pallets a bit.

Probably true, but I've been adding software to my tablet for well over a year, and the thought of adding all that crap back again one .deb at a time after reflashing the tablet (and finding copies of all the weird stuff for the new OS level to begin with) seems a little scary to me.

If my second one was simply a spare, it wouldn't be an issue, but my wife has claimed it for her own Pidgin use so I've lost all say in what software goes on that tablet...

In any case, what I do have works well and is stable. I'm loathe to change it just for a few additional ports. At some point, though, maybe I'll acquire a third and use it to play around a little more...
