I just installed mplayer from http://maemo.org/downloads/product/OS2008/mplayer/ on OS2008 (5.2008.43-7).

I have a movie converted with the Nokia video converter which plays fine in the default palyer. The problem is that when I try to play it in MPlayer the video gets stuck and jumps from time to time (5s) to different frames .

Is there a known problem with mplayer? From what I read on the forum it should be better than the default player.

Nokia's video converter produces MP4, and mplayer has no optmizations for playing MP4 on the tablet at all.

Try N800 Video Converter or PS Video Convert. (I use N800VC all the time; haven't tried PS VC yet. I play my movies in mplayer, it works great.)

Thanks for your quick answers, I used VirtualDub to encode some videos and they work without a problem.
