Try N800 Video Converter or PS Video Convert. (I use N800VC all the time; haven't tried PS VC yet. I play my movies in mplayer, it works great.)

Thanks for your quick answers, I used VirtualDub to encode some videos and they work without a problem.
I have a movie converted with the Nokia video converter which plays fine in the default palyer. The problem is that when I try to play it in MPlayer the video gets stuck and jumps from time to time (5s) to different frames
Is there a known problem with mplayer? From what I read on the forum it should be better than the default player.
