There were some speed enhancements in the new poppler versions if I remember correctly.

It's OK, I get it poppin'...

VFP enabled. Let me know how it works with Evince and I'll upload to -devel.

Only problem I foresee is that Evince wants libpoppler2 - this is libpoppler4, I may have to rebuild Evince against this new poppler.

Ok, the Extras version of Evince won't compile against my libpoppler4 but my port of ePDFview does. If someone wants to test, grab the libpoppler4 from my link above and install this epdfview.

I'll upload to Extras-devel if all seems good.

i guess the only potential issue is that one have to toss out evince for this to work, right?

You should be alright looking at the package names and libs - evince wants libpoppler.so.2 which is in libpoppler2 and epdfview wants libpoppler.so.4 which is in (surprise!) libpoppler4,

sadly, your efforts may have been wasted, qwerty12. i still have issues with the pdf's, tho i think i see a slight speed increase in rendering.

what i do not get is why the exact same files work perfectly on my desktop computer, but fails on the tablet.
