Hi all,

I connect to the internet using usb 3g modem (huawei e270). I do not have a wi-fi router. I know they are available. Just wandering cuold I set up Internet Connection Sharing so my n800 connects to the internet via wireless connection on my laptop (dual booting xp pro and ubuntu 8.10)? Apologies if this has been answered before, but I haven't been able to lacete it on the forum.

Hi,

I haven't tried, but connecting the IT via ad-hoc wi-fi seems trivial, so that shouldn't be a problem. I've set up ICS before between an Ethernet and a 56kbps Modem and was quite easy to do, so I don't think that should be a problem, either.
Buuuuut, I've read somewhere in this forums that some people have managed/were trying to connect a usb modem directly to the N8x8, so you may want to do that instead.

Edit: I found this http://www.home-network-help.com/ad-...s-network.html and this http://www.home-network-help.com/int...n-sharing.html . After setting your computer in ad-hoc mode, you just have to connect to that network with your N8x8.

Edit2: If your laptop has bluetooth, you can probably set it up using the bluetooth modem.

Update: Just tried a ad-hoc connection. No problems at all.

Thanks man, little googlin' did the trick, i've got it going. However, you got me all interested with the prospect of hooking up the usb modem directly into IT. Mmmmmmmm

As I said, I've seen it somewhere in these forums. Don't know if someone succeeded, but there's a bit of talk about it.
Anyway, another option would be using a 3G phone with bluetooth (which is basically a 3G modem that can make calls too) to connect to the Internet. IIRC, these 3G modems have a SIM card inside that you can use in other devices.

Yeah, saw the posts describing that route. Seems to be the simplest solution, provided one has a 3g enabled phone with decent b-tooth throughput.
