its a question of use cases. would you hand of a thumbdrive to someone, with some files the person needs? thats the kind of use that one could find for a floppy or cd/dvd.

for something to put in the pocket as sneakernet use between home and office, or similar, thumb drives are king.

problem is that there is right now no universal media that can do both.
