The release info says Fremantle provides a vibra and FM TX api, can't find the header files in the Beta SDK (and yes I installed the nokia binaries). Am I missing something?
Cheers,
Tex

Hi texmex,

first the vibra API:
you find it in the dbus-names.h.

now the FM tx:
unfortunately the documentation/headers are not available yet, but we are working on it to add information quite soon. I will post it here as soon as available. Sorry for the inconvenience. Just for your information, the binary-package name for it is fmtx-middleware.

Cheers Daniel

Cool, will we have access to both receive and transmit functionality, and will the RDS stuff be accessible (/me crosses fingers )

Cheers

Apparently not (at least not receive):

FM Radio functionality has been dropped for future development
That's despite the Fremantle beta kernel coming with
Code:
CONFIG_RADIO_ADAPTERS=y
CONFIG_I2C_SI4713=m
CONFIG_I2C_BCM2048=m
in rx51_defconfig :-(

That bug is for the N800 isn't it?

There's no RDS receive or transmit on the N800 devices (due to the chipset), I was talking about the N900, which has the hardware. The question is just whether the drivers will support it, etc.

Yes, though "FM Radio functionality has been dropped for future development" doesn't sound like it refers to N800. Then again it may be about userland apps and high-level APIs, and in that case if a v4l driver exists and works who cares?

kernel-2.6.28/drivers/media/radio/radio-bcm2048.c looks like it does, including kernel-space RDS decoding (see also this thread), but I guess we won't know until we have real hardware to experiment with.

It will be weird and cool to be able to receive Internet radio via HSDPA and then be able to re-transmit it via FM to nearby radios.

and while transmitting alter the RDS string to say the song title (as a trivial use).

More interesting imo is being able to receive RDS data (e.g. TMS traffic data)

And I fear that we will once again end up with some unusable hardware features due to missing or too basic software support :-(

Thanks for that, I didn't realise it until now but the FM transmitter chip also has RDS capability :-)
