I think it should be an repeated animal because everyone is chosen yet or create a new one. I know something about molecular genetics if the latter is chosen.

I thought about the insects also, but I want to avoid maemo being known as "that bug"

As I recall, pendrivelinux used a photo of somebody's cute red-headed girlfriend.

I'm sure there's someone out in the community endearing enough to be the mascot, if not perhaps male and female anime-type caricatures?

I definitely like that panda . And I think it cannot be confused with the WWF's one. Penguin builds a bridge to linux, but I would prefer a unique maemo mascot.

No, you can't have a Qole for a mascot!



Another vote for the panda... maybe a tiny panda? The problem is that the black and white panda is actually the "Giant Panda", which is kinda weird for a portable distro like Maemo.

Another idea: a raccoon? The ae of maemo could go over the eyes, like a mask...

EDIT: ...like the Minix mascot... sigh...

EDIT2: AHA! The RED PANDA!! Small, cute, not used as far as I can see...

EDIT3: Please see my post below where I realize that the Red Panda is also known as a Firefox.
