Enter Opabinia regalis. This nice Cambrian sea inhabitant had not less than 5 eyes and a nice single trunk with claws.
It's the ideal mascotte, also because you can draw it as you like (she left us only its fossils, smiling :-)

Another vote for the panda... maybe a tiny panda? The problem is that the black and white panda is actually the "Giant Panda", which is kinda weird for a portable distro like Maemo.

Another idea: a raccoon? The ae of maemo could go over the eyes, like a mask...

EDIT: ...like the Minix mascot... sigh...

EDIT2: AHA! The RED PANDA!! Small, cute, not used as far as I can see...

I like red panda a lot. Nice. Another one to think about is a Lynx. (You know.. a Linux Lynx!)

That's a great page. You can see the % of probability of you actually liking a mascot of a free software project. Now, is there any page listing the projects not having any mascot?

(Sorry for the boring answer from a former contributor of Debian, Ubuntu and GNOME - find the common denominator of these projects).

First off, let me say that I am extremely disappointed that we can't use a qole as our mascot... It was going to be my suggestion :P

Also, I do like qole's raccoon modification. I think it's the best so far.

That or the narwhal.

You know what? It's the narwhal It'd just be really funny.
