I hadn't seen anyone post a WiFi benchmark, so I thought I'd pop up from lurk mode...

Setting: Verizon FIOS network. Fiber based, 15mbps down, 1.5mbps up

Test Site: http://speakeasy.net/speedtest/

Results:
  • Wired Desktop
15mbps down, 1.5mbps up. These are the max speeds, throttled by Verizon

  • Mac Powerbook G4, 802.11G network
7222 kbps down, 1444 kbps up

  • Nokia N800, 802.11G network
4655 kbps down, 1359 kbps up

I'm pretty happy.

Another data point, using the speakeasy test:

WinXP desktop / Wired: 1981 down, 678 up (Verizon DSL)
Sony notebook / WiFi: 1988 down, 662 up (Verizon DSL)
Nokia N800 / WiFi: 1963 down, 643 up (Verizon DSL)
Nokia N800 / Bluetooth: 617 down, 82 up (Verizon EV-DO, RAZR V3m)

If memory serves me, the Bluetooth / EV-DO results are slightly better than Verizon's original DSL rollout (and probably comparable to their current base level DSL offering).
