The hosts file directly affects the network connection. Changing your hosts file will change ALL applications that connect to the Internet.

I just did it, and wow....works great, the only site I visit regularly that I see ANY ads on is the animated weather radar page for my area on weather.com. Ary there any drawbacks to using this though, as you said it affects all apps that connect to the internet?

@tso: I added it recently after I thought of a way to detect 770 on the run , do you have 0.3.1-2?

And you don't have zoom_step in Options? You can add one with an sqlite manager in settings. Type string, value 0.1.

As long as nothing in the hosts file blocks you from getting to a website you need. The hosts file basically reroutes DNS names to IP addresses. So, if you had a line in your hosts file that looked like:
Code:
127.0.0.1 talk.maemo.org
This would tell your tablet to use the IP address 127.0.0.1 for talk.maemo.org, instead of querying your DNS server to find out what the IP address is. The way it blocks out advertisements is by redirecting any servers that host ads to 127.0.0.1, your tablet, which doesn't have any webserver, or ads.

well i would enjoy it myself, if not the tablet loved to put my tap-and-hold's at the border of sensitivity, so that if there is a variation of pressure for even a millisecond, i hear "click click" in the speaker and find myself two pages back...

and thats with me having the impression that if i put any more pressure on the stylus, im going to drive it straight thru the screen...
