I had some hope the keylaunch thing might work for him, i.e. that such a fake mouse button event would cause the right stuff to happen within Tear/WebKit.

Implementing my Tear wish on the other hand probably wouldn't, but then I mostly wanted to remind you of it given the opportunity .

I tried webkit for the builtin browser, I tried fennec, and it was a no go.
I hoped that there would be something like "press Fn and then click with the stylus" or similar.

I agree that right clicks are not really practical in a stylus device, but come on, even MacOs saw the light eventually. And all those rich web applications are left without a paddle.

Sorry that I sound a bit miffed, but I bought the Nokia to have a small portable device to use with the software from www.redmine.org and now I can't because there is no right click for ajax? This seems so very unlike Linux that there is no workaround.

Oh well it's not your fault. Sorry to have vented. (let's see if I can modify Redmine to work without a rightclick, ey?)
Give Midori in Easy Debian a try? I did a tap-and-hold and got a menu with "Edit / Status / Priority ... "

Looks like its working in Tear too... Took me a while to find the menu - couldn't guess that its on the row but not on the links...

Doesn't work in MicroB which shows the issues as a RSS feed.

Thank you everybody! With the tear browser tap-and-hold works fine as the right mouse button and brings up the javascript menu in Redmine.

This thread was exactly what I hoped for. Normally I am quite proficient in RTFMing, googling and finding stuff, but searching for right-click in google and on maemo.org did not prove fruitful.

So it was a browser problem (microb with the webkit engine installed shows everything but the right-click menu of Redmine just fine by the way, fennec had some problems, too)

Cheers for tear(s).

I will also look into the keylaunch option, since it might be quicker in day to day use than tap-and-hold.

Just a heads up for other people interested in this:
I also tried keylaunch (apt-get install keylaunch)and it works fine with some modifications to the instructions linked to in Sho's post:
  • I head to use "xset770 -r 135 0" to disable key repeat for Chr (Multi_key).
  • In /etc/keylaunchrc: key=....Pressed Multi_key:~/usr/share/keylaunch/xmodmap -e "pointer = 2 3 1" and key=....Released Multi_key:~/usr/share/keylaunch/xmodmap -e "pointer = 1 2 3"

I did not integrate it into the init files yet, since I am not too sure if I would rather keep the symbols behind Chr.

And Bundyo -if your are still reading this- navigating java script sub--menus after right-clicking is pretty much hit or miss since it interferes with scrolling. Maybe the keys on the D-pad can be used to move in such menus? Or if a simple click on the menu entry to open the sub-menu wouldn't cause the whole menu to disappear would be better. I'll file a formal bug report, if you think that this is important enough for tear.

There is already such bug report I think (navigating the links with the dpad), but for now consider holding down the menu key while navigating (disables kinetik scrolling while held down).

With microb tap and hold gives a right click menu. At least it does when not on a link.
