Update the firmware and you won't have to put it in the fridge. Do it now as you won't have nothing much on it and therefore not much to lose as an update deletes everything.

I wouldn't risk using a fridge with a very expensive gadget, but as you only paid $120 for it... maybe it's exactly the kind of thing that's worth trying wacky experimental fixes on. :-)

Once you got it booted and charged... you should flash the firmware to the latest before you do anything with it: There is a known problem with older firmwares that cause the power up problem you just described.

EDIT: Qwerty12 beat me to it...

qole mentioned something that's not brought up very often, that the external SD slot is hot-swappable.

On a separate issue, Is there anything that can be done -- short of rebooting the device -- to get consistent USB access to the internal card? Almost every time I have used:

Code:
lsof /media/mmc2
(list open files), I get no files listed, so I'm wondering if there's anything that can be done.

Joe.

Run lsof as root to see moar open files and I find running 'swapoff /media/mmc2/.swap' helps. If not, then I kill sftp-server & metalayer-crawler.

As soon as you flash, download Canola2. Great application.

Yep I had to charge it all first. I just got off work so I can put OS2008 on it. Trust me I've been watching these tablets for a year, there's a lot I'm gonna do with it!

My first Nokia tablet, yeah. I've had their phones before.

Ok I got it going. Man you need some patience with this thing - have to wait 5 - 10 minutes if it doesn't power up sometimes, then it will. It's updating now. Sheesh!

You say it was a demo unit? Maybe that is why everything is broken. Try a fresh battery, and flashing from Linux.
