I have been working on translating the Canola GUI into French and Spanish.

As I am not a Linux user of any great experience and use an XP PC as my main computer I posted a overview "HOW TO" of my experience over last couple of weeks in understanding what the hell *.pot *.po and i18n are and then programs and methods to best prepare translations. Read more in my blog http://mikesl300i.blogspot.com/2007/...into-your.html

There are already a number of translations ready for Canola, but at this time the beta version of Canola is not ready for the translation files. If your language is not already prepared, I suggest you have a go preparing the translation files. I found it almost easy! with the support of my Tri-lingual fiance. (Thanks Nathalie)

Do check with Gustavo ( barbieri@gmail.com ) by sending an email as he is collating all the translations from different sources and I would hate anyone to spend to much time to then find out translation of that particular language is already completed. barbieri@gmail.com

People developing other GUI applications for the Nokia Internet Tablets and actually any Linux application should attempt to ensure that they ultimately provide a method of adding translation support. This will surely increase real user interest in an application running on a Nokia Internet Tablet worldwide in my humble opinion :-)

PS I welcome thoughts/comments about all my blog posts relating to the Nokia Internet Tablets where I have just switched over from Old Blogger to New Blogger and realised that commenting was not working in Old Blogger in my Blog. Blog post comments suddenly appeared when switching account/blog over from last three months or more, so if you wanted or have posted a comment and wondered why you never saw it or my reply?

I am reviewing my blog posts and adding comments to most recent items where appropriate and as time allows.
