They can use them on edge(slow) for internet but not on 3g. Android won't be ready for prime time until Android 2.0(donut) comes out toward the end of the year. Most manufacturers are waiting until 2.0 to release their phones. Android phones are coming out on other US carriers as well so they are not exclusive to T-mobile.

I think the N97 was announced in late 2008, and is just now shipping six months later. Hopefully the next maemo device doesnt use the same timeframe.

...the problem here my friend is that nokia hasn't learned how to pronounce maemo yet.

Well that was with the N97, but the E75 and other phones were pretty quick.

Been awhile since we've had any high end N series announcements huh? The lackluster N86 (which was intitially called the N85 8MP, so more like an N85i) and the N97.

They need to beef up their n series portfolio for smartphones, esp since the smartphone market is the ONLY one expected to grow !

They've been quite forward with their intensions to have an announcement and release quite close together.

I don't agree. Android does just fine right now.

I'd hate to be the bearer of fun news but tmobile's network has never been anything to write home about in anything but prices. The only reason they aren't the smallest carrier is because sprint has fallen so hard. In other words, its a pipe dream to think that the next tablet will do more. It would need to be the morph concept to generate that kind of mainstream buzz

By "smallest carrier", I hope you mean "smallest of the big 4". There are PLENTY of carriers in the US that are smaller than T-Mobile.

As for the rest... the Sidekick has done a fine job of finding success on T-Mobile's network. And Android hasn't been hurt by it, either. I think it depends more on what type of audience and deployment they're looking for ... and whether or not AT&T wanted an open linux device in their product line-up.

But, people do need to be aware that T-Mobile's 3G isn't yet nationwide. It's getting there, but it's still EDGE in a lot of places (I get 3G at home, EDGE at work).

Not quite. There have been 3 different data cards out that aren't t-mobile branded, but that DO work with T-mobile. Last summer there were 2 devices that were mentioned on HowardForums, that were meant to work with a little wireless ISP in the midwest somewhere.. that happened to be T-Mobile 3G compatible (one of them was a bandrich card, one was a specialty Option card).

The third one went through FCC approval recently, and has specific support for T-Mobile 3G.

So, it's not that it has to be from T-Mobile, it just has to specifically be for T-Mobile's 3G AWS spectrum. The mis-named "North American 3G" bands aren't what T-Mobile uses for 3G.
