Not quite for me: loading say a 20-page document (.doc format) pegged the cpu at close 100%... and when eventually loaded, the simple formating of the document was hopelessly screwed up.

So still, the only game in town is Abiword hosted under Qole's easy-debian environment... under easy-mer, this same abiword (v2.6) behaves badly, though. Hopefully, this new version will appear soon in the debian / ubuntu repositories.

Being just a small step toward the 2.8 release and given the fact that is just in Extra-devel (so the EULA whould say "this is a beta app far from being stable, please use at your own risk) it's simply great! I was even able to insert and scale an image in the text
Crashed just one time: on N800, with full screen keyboard, pressing the "hide keyboard" key is not an option.
But pressing enter closes the fullscreen keyboard too, so I can live with this bug
Thanks to every person working on this project.

Abiword was never as good at opening MSWord documents as OOo, but sometimes you don't want to wait a minute and a half just to read a one-page Word document that somebody attached to their e-mail.

Abiword fills the "quick way to open MS Word" slot very nicely, and if the Abiword devs are finally paying attention to the only growth market left for their app (mobile devices), I am ecstatic! I echo totololo's words:

THANK YOU HUBERT FIGUIERE!

It's now also in Chinook repos, and does it's job. I'm happy

Wow, I am excited. I had used it before but now that I have a new shiny bluetooth keyboard I will give this new version a spin.

Uhm... something killed my Abiword...
After the update to 2.7.4 the big onscreen keyboard's bug was gone... but today Abiword stopped working
I get this error running it from the terminal:

abiword[1967]: GLIB WARNING ** Gtk - gtk_widget_size_allocate(): attempt to allocate widget with width -24 and height 0
abiword[1967]: GLIB WARNING ** Glib-GObject - IA_g_object_get_valist: object class 'Gtk Settings' has no property named 'gtk-cursor-blink-timeout'

CPU goes 100%, Abiword main windows stays white and I have to kill it...
The first time I noticed this behaviour was while opening directly a .doc file from file manager, I killed Abiword, tried to launch it again (no document to load) but it still hanged, then rebooted: the NIT froze while booting
Reset the NIT, removed and recreated a swap file, completely removed abiword (and checked via apt-get that no unused packages were left) and reinstalled, still unable to run it...
I didn't install or remove anything before this happened...

Did you remove the abiword related files where all the programs put their preference files ?

usually, when you have persistant problems with an application, you need to remove it AND the prefs file(s) before reinstalling ...

That just worked!
Still those errors remain, but Abiword works great!

Which one of these is the one I should be installing?
1. abiword_2.6.4-0rp0+pre2_armel.deb or
2. abiword_2.6.4-0rp0+pre2_i386.deb
Sorry in advance if it is a stupid question but I just got the N810 and would like to be able to view / edit MS Word and MS Excel docs. Thanks
