If i remember correctly, the correct name is AGPS (you can install it from the repositories).
Then it will connect to internet to download the satellites position.
After that it should find the correct satellites quite quickly.

Bear in mind that AGPS's satellite almanac data goes stale after about 30 minutes. Also, a static GPS can get a fix more quickly.

There are also some bugs whereby the nvd_data will get corrupted or supld stuck. These have been tricky to track down and remain unfixed AFAICT. See #3851 and #3862 for more details.

I recently started to use my GPS and it works perfectly, without AGPS or WIFI using maemo mapper.

What I did was start the maps application first and have it start looking for satellites and then start maemo mapper. Maemo mapper has the GPS set to GPSD Host 127.0.0.1. Which I believe means internal.

This always works for me.
