Actually it's called Wayfinder and you have to pay to use your N8x0 as a navigation system.
The free one is MaemoMapper. Your N810 has a GPS chip in it.

Search the forum for more about Maemo Mapper and Wayfinder.

Know your N810, goto

Hope you have some space on your external card. Just move the whole folder Map, cut and paste onto your external SD card. The wayfinder will locate it and works just fine.

Right now Maemo Mapper is the most mature of the mapping programs, but in about 6 months or so, Navit is going to pass it and be the preferred choice.

Exuz me if what I'm going to say would be off-topic, but it's something that I've been thinking about for a longtime. and that I can't find a better place to post it.
My problem is that I don't understand the reason for which NOKIA doesn't provide 'Nokia maps' service with the Nxx. I think that we are as good customers as the people buying the other kind of NOKIA cellulars, and that Nxx has all required things to use the 'Nokia maps' service.
we have problems to use our GPS because wayfinder makes us paying for their service (that's normal). And that even the free software ( MM, navit) that we are using have problems with maps providers such as google map (sometimes works, sometime doesn't)
without offending anybody, my post is just to bring the attention of people working for/with NOKIA (in case one of them would read my post) on the fact that we as Nxx users deserve a better consideration.
pliz don't take it personnelly.

I think that Navit has surpassed Maemo Mapper in most way's within the last month or two. If you haven't tried out the SVN builds already then that is the best place to start. I update Navit on a daily basis with the SVN builds and almost everyday I'm noticing dramatic increases in the usability of Navit. In fact I now use Navit as my primary GPS software after using a combination of RoadMap and Maemo Mapper for almost a year.

Navit isn't perfect by any means and certainly does have it's shortcomings. Things like complex setup, metric system only, and street number issues do hold back Navit somewhat. However once you get Navit configured successfully and understand how it operates you will find that it is much more powerful and flexible then Maemo Mapper.

First of all, Nokia Maps is Wayfinder's tool. It' s free, you need to pay only for the navigation, only if you need it. Also, note that wayfinder's maps take less space than Mapper's, because Maemo Mapper downloads maps as images from Openstreet, Google Street etc

No, Nokia Maps (nowadays Ovi Maps) doesn't have anything to do with Wayfinder Navigator (also called Map in N8x0 menu).
