Well, I was a very lucky fellow.

Someone seemed to not know how to put up an auction on eBay quite well.


For starters, the seller posted the item between the hours of 2 and 6 AM.

The seller also had the item ending at 12 AM.


The starting time would be too early for anyone to know about it to put in their proxy bid. And the ending time would only let people without jobs notice it, mirite? And with the demographic looking for an N800 so low... Well, you need time for people to notice it.


So, I nabbed a used, with original box and all original accessories, Nokia N800 for $93 shipped. No scratches, wear, or tear.
Though it is two years old, and was used lightly.

I recently made a topic about not being able to get an SD card.
Well, with the addition of a very low priced N800, and coming into about 20 dollars I didn't know I would be, I'll be able to afford a 16GB SD card.


So, when I receive the device (shipped UPS Ground. Heard more good stories than horror stories. Hope I can be gifted with the same experience. But should be here by either Saturday or Monday) I plan to do the following things:


1. Turn it on to make sure it works.

2. Flash the device with latest firmware.

3. Start up the device once more.

4. Tweak brightness, settings for wifi on/off idle time, and other battery performance improvements (I suspect the battery may not be in peak condition being 2 years old. But I can buy a better battery down the line when I head off to college and use it more.)

5. Proceed to install applications such as Pidgin, Tear, X-Chat, MyTube, MediaBox, BlueMaemo, Weather(forgot the name).

6. Give it a hardy run-through of different media using a 1GB SD card.

7. If it still works after a week or two, I'll buy that 16GB SD card.
I'll proceed to load it with my music collection (Very small. Maybe 3 GB) and some videos.


8. Buy a case for it.

9. Show it off to friends. More importantly, my dad. Who's got an iPod touch.



Am I missing anything from this list?

I'm just very excited. I've been looking at and researching N8x0's for a year and a half. I paid $207 for one a year ago, but never recieved the device or my money back. So I'm estatic I'm paying about $110 lesss, give or take, for another one.

You forgot "have fun"...?

If I created checklists like that for everything I bought, I'd still be trying to tie my shoes. (Or, putting my underwear on... Man I need to make a list.)

Really. Play around. Install and uninstall apps. You won't need everything in the repos: find what suits your usage.

I agree with Tim. About the best thing about my N800 is the fun I have had trying various applications out and finding the best ones for my particular needs. That is still ongoing as well, even though everything has slowed down recently for the N8x10.

If you are a tinkerer, then when you get your second SD card, dual boot, and pop MER onto the 1GB and have a play with it.

Haha. I get what you guys are saying.

But I've had a year and a half to stalk these forums and plan what I'll install.


Saturday/Monday just can't come soon enough, now.
