General
I watch a lot of pre-ripped movies that come with a separate file for the sub-titles (.srt). I've found the sound on the N810 to sometimes be a tad low when playing movies and I would benefit from having the subtitles show.

Question 1
Is there any way for the N810 to recognize an srt-file and play the subtitles?

Question 2
Alternatively...when I play movies on my PC I use VLC and I almost always find that changing the audio equalizer to 'live' or 'classic' gives a much richer and louder sound - is there anyway to do the same equalizer change when playing a movie on the N810?

Encoding for the tablet with Handbrake gives you the option of including subtitles.

As does the current version of tablet-encode.

In terms of answering the original question, I imagine mplayer should be able to do it.

Just give the srt the same name as the avi sans avi extension and mplayer will pick it up automatically. Been watching 3 seasons of Dexter with subs doing it like this.

Yes, it is, but for exotic alphabets like Cyrillic you have to specify the font in mplayer config.

Um, Qwerty, why do you need subs for Dexter?

I thought that option only worked when ripping from a DVD and not, as mentioned in my post, from a file with a .srt file in the same directory.

I'll move the srt file over as well to the same folder on the N810 and see if it picks it up. Thanks guys!

EDIT: Added the srt - and it was picked up! Thanks!

Why do I need subs or why am I watching Dexter?

Subs: Volume on the tablet sucks and my family have always insisted on having the subs on the TV (no, none of us are - thankfully - deaf) so I've gotten into the habit of having them

Why I watch Dexter: I happen to like it, the blood, the violence...

Hey, I read the description of tablet-encode and it says:
Encode a video into a format suitable for a Nokia Internet Tablet.
Which sounds just like the simple solution I've been looking for.

Can this be installed from somewhere, what repo(s) is needed, what are the lib pre-req's, etc?

Thanks!
