tso's ogg tehora option is probably the best.

All the new browsers are going to start supporting HTML5 video and stuff. If it was HTML5 video, we don't need any stinking plugins. And because it is open source, I'm sure your engineers will have an easier time!

Oh, and video artifacts from time to time, but hey, I'm not complaining!

Moreover , even under Windows under IE the livecast is not visible, so it is not a video format issue but a poorly designed website.

I noticed that also on N810. Best to have the charger near by or plug in to the unit. That said, this is a nice service for N8XX.

I'm investigating Livecast on a N800 and N810 for possible use by faculty in a university setting. I've found a few issues I'd appreciate you passing along to the developers.
  • Livecast does not show the identity of participants in Chat. So, while web users viewing a stream see "Bob: Hi!", the person originating the stream on an N800 or N810 just sees "Hi!". The Chat window is small on Maemo devices, but it would still be nice if this could be fixed.
  • Livecast ignores the Full-screen key on the N800/N810. The software could benefit from the greater space available in full-screen mode.
  • The software does not block the screen from dimming while a stream is live. It would be helpful if it did.

No other sites (e.g. Youtube, CNN etc.) with video work normally.
I start the livecast on the Nokia 5800 or N810 and I see video.
Then I open the browser, log on, then I see an orange icon 'Live!' click on it and see the live page. But no video.
Moreover I see a map centered on somewhere in South Dakota while my GPS ia not on and I never entered a default location.
It seems the site is pointing to the wrong page ????

Here a screenshot of my Opera browser.

EDIT: I tried www.livecast.com/mobile on both Firefox and Opera by selecting the live page and clicking on the video icon:

Result: Firefox locked up and Opera keeps waiting....

I sent an email to the guy at Livecast on this forum jb@livecast.com.

Works great for me. I use MicroB on my N800 and I use a Windows XP desktop with Explorer 6. On my desktop I don't need to log in. I go to "http://livecast.com/MyUserName

Tried it again on Firefox a Windows PC;

Result: very jerky on WinMedia, sometimes turns white, on Quicktime: 'Additional plugins are required....'.
MicroB on the N810 does not show video either.
So it seems not to work or it is heavily optimized for the Windows platform with IE. When that is the case it is useless for me and many others (Mac / Linux).
But, no wonder it cannot work fluently, a normal webcam session (e.g. on MSN) goes direct, without any intermediate server (in this case livecast.com) no browser overhead, etc.
So the only way to get real livecast is direct connection without intermediate server.

Successful Livecast from my N800 to:
  • Firefox 3.0.11 on Mac OS X 10.5.7 with plug-in from QuickTime 7.6.2 (Flip4Mac plug-in shows only a still frame)
  • Safari 4.0.1 on Mac OS X 10.5.7 with plug-in from QuickTime 7.6.2 (Flip4Mac plug-in unresponsive)
  • Internet Explorer 7.0.5730.13 on Windows XP (in Parallels) with plug-in from Windows Media Player 11.0.5721.5260 (QuickTime 7.6.2 plug-in also works)
  • EDIT: Firefox 3.0.10 on Ubuntu 9.04 (X11 forwarded) with plug-in from ubuntu-restricted-extras

I found after I logged in to my account at livecast.com via my tablet, when I select any link on the main menu page it will send me back to the log in page. To avoid logging in again I found by selecting the back button Livecast takes me to the link I had first selected. I used both Tear and MicroB with the same results.
