After much searching and experimentation I am unable to install sharepy (alpha 5) due to the inability of my n810 to load python-simplejson.

I have found two versions available for download; 0.0.1 and 2.0.6, however both fail to install. I have both the extras and dev-extras repositories available and logging offers little insight into why the program won't load simply offering the information "Errors encountered while processing".

Can anyone offer me some pointers on how to load sharepy or python-simplejson?

Thx

Hi.

If you are trying install python-simplejson, then you aren't doing it the right way.
The user shouldn't know what python-simplejson is and specially shouldn't try to install it manually.

If you install Sharepy from the Application Manager, then it will install all necessary dependences automatically. You shouldn't see python-simplejson.

If you have problems with it, there could be some package half-installed or similar and it doesn't let you install other applications. Do you can install other apps different to Sharepy? What is in the application manager log? You can get it from the menu->Tools->Log

Also, the 0.0.1 version of simplejson could be the cuprit. I don't know from where is coming it. But seeing the version number I'm not trust the interior of this package.

Finally, the Extras-devel repository shouldn't be in your catalog list. Extras is the repository the users need. Extras-devel is for developers and testers.

I think that we are all testers to a certain extent.

I remember trying to install something from Extras and receiving a message saying it was missing Siimplejson. (In fact, I remember coming across this issue many months ago, perhaps more than a year. Did you SEARCH before answering this question?)

I can't remember what it was that I was trying to install. I'll try to find out.
Edit: Oops,I just remembered that I have mostly switched to Mer and can't test on my N810. My N800 is at home and I won't be there for a few weeks.

But I still remember trying to install some app recently and running into a message saying it was missing simplejson, and I still remember this coming up in the past as well.

Well, while I don't want be rude, but I haven't to search for an application I have done and its dependence I have packaged.

I uploaded python-simplejson to extras-devel in February and promoted to Extras in May when a package was needing it (python-facebook what I have packaged too). It's the only package in Extras needing it.

If you try to install manually some .deb package depending on python-simplejson, and you haven't installed python-simplejson, it'll say it's missing. But it's a problem not specific to this case.
The case we are talking is Sharepy, and Sharepy should installable flawlessly from the application manager.

.. and unfortunately for me it isn't.

Sharepy fails to install. If I list the app under application details 'problems' the message states 'Application packages missing: python-simplejson'.

I am able to install, update and delete other applications without error. I had an earlier version installed and working earlier this year, I believe sharepy got broke like this through an update to the alpha 5 release.

Anybody got further thoughts about how I get sharepy playing again?

Thx

Please, could you write here the catalogs you have in the application manager? And how are you trying to install it?

Also, the OS version you are using would be useful.

Thanks.

I have no unusual catalogs listed, but I do have maemo extras (and extras-development disabled).

I have tried installing from maemo garage and through the application manager - update, sharepy shows as requiring update to alpha-5.

Taking either option ends with an installation failure providing the message described above (simplejson missing).

My earlier experience of the product was very favourable and I found it's features useful and reliable.I'm disappointed that I can no longer use it.

Cheers

I am running OS2008 5.2008.43-7

I've never installed SharePy previously, but I just installed it to check for problems. I'm also running 5.2008.43-7, and I had no Python programs on my tablet, so SharePy pulled in a list of dependencies as long as my arm.

The installation completed without any errors.

My catalogues are: Nokia catalog, Nokia catalog (3rd party software), Nokia System Software Updates, Maemo Extras, Browser Extras, Collabora catalogue.

Sorry, I don't know what could be going on.

All reports I have are that it installs without problems, and considering the number of people using the Flickr API and the Facebook one, there are a good quantity of people with it installed.

You could try to install it with apt-get, surely it will show a better feedback of the problem. But you should to do it with root permissions, and with the console, so I don't recommend it if you aren't comfortable with it.
Also, other option would be to flash again the OS, but this should be the last resort.
