I need a better (faster) GPS application. I had an out of town trip, so I purchased a month of Wayfinder service on my new N810.

On the morning of an important meeting I had not a minute to spare. I already knew how long it should take me to walk from my hotel to the meeting. But I needed to make sure I didn't get lost walking in this new city, so I fired up the map application on my N810 and started walking.

Unfortunately, the GPS was so slow to sync that it never did sync by the time I got to the meeting. And without the GPS, I did take a wrong turn, and I was late.

On other days I got the GPS to work, but it would often take 15 minutes to sync with the satellites. It never did sync quickly. For me, this is just unusable. My sister's dedicated GPS (a cheapo unit) will sync under the same conditions in a minute or less. I tested both by walking around my neighborhood at home and the N810 is always way slower to sync with the GPS satellites.

How can I resolve this slowness? Thanks.

Do you have AGPS? Diablo? Can you purchase a good Bluetooth GPS, which will fix all your problems?

This review on Amazon gives me some concern...

But I guess your point is that the GPS receiver in the N810 is no good. If that is the general consensus, them I'm screwed. It's not because I can't purchase a GPS receiver, but I really wanted this function integrated into the same physical unit as my tablet (for convenience). I already have too many different devices to carry around.

I'm not sure what AGPS is. Yes, I have OS2008. I suppose I could purchase a Bluetooth GPS if it was really small. But I was really hoping, I guess, that the problem was in the software application. (As I said in the other post, I don't want to acquire another hardware item.)

Same problem. Map starts for like 15 minutes until it shows the current location. I'm tearing my hair off, Nokia sucks big time!

AGPS is a free app from Nokia. Sometimes it makes satellites faster. I usually get a lock in a MAX of 5 minutes. If it takes longer, either you are in a bad position, or something is wrong with your tablet. Sometimes. it just glitches, and you have to reboot.

I read that review at Amazon. I would bet that he bought a defective gps or else he kept it in his pocket. Once again, mine works great!

I had the same problem with the standard Map install - I thought it was utter crap.

Installing "AGPS Beta" and updating everthing before I fired up Maps made everything run very very quickly. Give that a shot.
