people where experimenting with running maemo on laptops at least as far back as the N800.

i recall reading about a presentation done about such attempts...

Ten inch notebooks doesn't really have all that many more pixels. It's mostly a question about fixed size vs dynamic size. Right?

Linux also has UNIX technology, of course, but it's not built by hired pros, you know. What are your guarantees?

With Windows, your satisfaction is guaranteed! Plus, it costs less, there are studies that show it. And there is of course the learning curve thing...

For big companies Linux is just a political stick to show during negotiations with Microsoft.

And is also the system that idealistic geeks will waste their times porting themselves to each new machine so they can finally start using them for their work, X months after everybody else.
Hahaha, I hope you're joking
I can't read your post any other way.

I'm OS agnostic. I use Windows XP for deskbound work, Maemo for mobile work, S60 for yakking. I see no holy grail for vertical scaling-- yet. But I'm betting it will be more likely open source than closed when it manifests.

I'm also betting that Nokia booklets will eventually have an option...

Looks great! My brother has also already declared his undying love for it too and wants it.

I am not too happy with integrated 3G though. Hopefully I can just skip that and have it get data through my phone. I already give Rogers too much of my money, I don't want to give them any more for another data account. Plus I have 6gig monthly with my current phone already that I can tap into more.

Windows is necessary in this space though. Everyone expects it and even those who try the cheaper Linux options mostly end up switching later. Nokia could make the Linux fans happy with a OS less version so they could install themselves without paying for Windows 7.

And Dell mostly sells Linux on servers. At least that is how it has been here. You don't order a Linux server and then change your mind.

I never said four or five times higher. The claim of four times higher originated from MSI. Who are being told they "do it wrong". Well, d'oh, it's harder to do Linux right :B

Even Canonical confirms that they have higher return rate. http://blog.laptopmag.com/ubuntu-con...han-anticpated

Yup. Design pixellated icons for a small device, then try viewing them on a larger screen. Yuck. Vice-versa, and you can't read them.

SVG FTW.

Looks like a nice device, especially the screen (1280x720) and HDMI out. Perfect for someone with an LCD tv at home, as you then have a big monitor. Maybe not great for media producers, or gamers, but those are more limited markets than the retirement generation.

It even has GPS onboard. Take it on your next cruise, or road trip to visit the grandkids!

A nice step towards an integrated line of Maemo devices, even if it means Win7 for now. I'm eager to hear the price, but it looks good to me...
