After much thought the past several days I've decided to go ahead and run for a council position. If I can post as much as I do, I can instead divert that time to council activities and would gladly do so!

Looks like I'm the first one, too.

I'm kind of interested in stepping up for community council, however I'm too worried that there will end up being times where I'll have to disappear or just have no time to put in the work required due to external issues (tons of crunch time on a game I'm finishing, for example).

I'd rather not attempt it than end up not being able to give the community the attention I feel they deserve from me in that capacity. (And that's why I try to push extra hard during the times that I am around.)

Do it. Now.

Zerojay, other council members (and the majority of the community) understand the ebbs and flows of "real" life. You already do more here than the council is really held accountable for.

Agreed. I'd also, somewhat cheekily, that this hasn't stopped other people in the past - and the contributions they have made have still been valuable.

My dream council (excluding current and past members) involves sjgadsby, zerojay, VDVsx, baloo and one of thp/yerga/gcobb and (the joker in the pack) conny. OTTOMH, of course.

Nice list, Jaffa. I'm not endorsing anyone (yet), but those are all great candidates!

We're going to need at least one person who is good at chairing meetings, doing the administrative heavy lifting, etc... For example, Jaffa somehow managed to do the September sprint meeting while also doing the Nokia World launch.

I know I'm not that good at that kind of stuff.

If you know community members that meet the karma requirements to run for council, and you know they are good at administration, poke 'em to join the council!

( It seems pretty clear to me that two of the best people we had for this, Jaffa and GeneralAntilles, have been "chased off" by the harsh treatment they received here in t.m.o. during the transition from ITt, etc. I'm pretty sure they'd get re-elected if they allowed themselves to stand (because the silent majority is more level-headed than the vocal minority), but I don't see that happening. )

Alright, so... how could I say no?

Let's do this.
