Just a few questions for Penguinbait that I need answered before I could give him my vote.

Penguinbait's work up to this point has been providing alternatives to the Maemo OS. How exactly does having someone who is so focused on replacing/getting rid of Maemo help Maemo as a whole?

How can Penguinbait faithfully represent the community that elects him if he, as you put it "often... ridiculed consensus views"?

What kind of work is he planning on doing for Maemo if elected? What work does he plan on doing during his sprints? What are his goals in Maemo Community Council? Why does he want to run?

Alternative window managers are hardly replacing the whole OS. I think this is fine, exploring options isn't a bad thing. Besides, you could make the same argument about Qole or Mer developers :-)

I would like those questions answered by all candidates actually.

Perhaps one of the candidates could start a thread with their "platform" and the other candidates could comment with their "platforms" as well (a mod could remove any other posts)?

So far this is the only (active) thread in the forums about the upcoming election and it has several off-topic posts about lodging for the summit in it. It would be nice to see a little more information in the forums as to who the candidates are, etc.

Perhaps an email to all "registered" voters pointing out where to find out who's running/nominated etc. That would also give people a chance to verify they are able to vote.

On a side note: I think it very difficult to get a "consensus" opinion here, so it would be very difficult to ridicule the "consensus" opinion. I have seen people disagree (sometimes vehemently) with the opinions of other vocal persons/groups. Polls are always disagreed with if they don't support your opinion, but I think they do show the variety of opinions that exist, and that generally, a consensus does NOT exist among members of our community.

Sorry that I omitted the context but I was trying to keep it short.

I mean within certain dialogs for instance. And that wasn't to pick on PenguinBait-- sometimes it's good to oppose the consensus, especially when groupthink leads the masses over a cliff.

Not, however, when that opposition is generally destructive to the community and the people in it, nor when it flies in the face of civilized behavior.

I absolutely agree, and I think many of us have been guilty of our little forays into that area, self included. But sometimes being placed into a position of responsibility gives one new perspective on how/why certain things become as they are.

Oh, and heading off a cliff is destructive to a community, isn't it?

WOW, I am not sure what got all your panties in a bunch. I was asked to keep my promise to run by Quim, Qole, and Texrat and others. Although I initially was going to run, as of late I have been thinking this might take of too much of my time, but after Zerojay was assured he could handle it, I felt I could devote a little time as well.

I have been an active community member, in my own ways. I am going to say this like GA, if I am elected I will use my ideas and point of view in all council related work. If you know who I am and agree with my points of view, vote for me. If you disagree with my points of view don't vote for me. If you don't know me, do some searches and read about me. Have a specific question, let me know.

Just to speak to one previous statement form Texrat "You have often challenged and even ridiculed consensus views, especially when they are out of alignment with your own."

Don't expect this to change much. What I would expect from me is an attempt to incite further community involvement prior to "community changing" decisions.

I realize I can be a giant pain in the ***, that's why I am so well loved and hated

Also I am pushing for Texrat for Council Leader!!!

I have disabled my PM's here, and removed myself from Council email and Community mailing list. There has been some fun times, see you around.

Oh no. No no no. In fact lately there have been some candidates which have been endorsed by current council members and others, and any of them would make more sense.

I may even bow out to act as your PR guy.

Agreed. However, it depends on the cliff, the alternatives, and the perspective
