B/c FB has 300 million users (I just read that today in WSJ). Social networking sites are ultimately as valuable as the people that are on them. If your friends are on MySpace, you might join MySpace. If they are on FB, you might join FB. But that's a chicken & egg problem for any site trying to enter that space. On top of it, each social networking site you join requires effort to maintain, so I for one want to keep mine to a minimum.

But it might be a way to enhance Ovi, I suppose. Microsoft is trying to add social networking to Hotmail after all, since they have a nice user base to build from, despite the fact that I find the thought of doing social networking on Windows Live unspeakably lame. Not that they asked my opinion.

Microsoft adds social networking to hotmail/live, and yahoo does it too on yahoo mail, google does it too.

Nokia has a user base, so trying to enhance OVI services is good.

And yes, I agree, once someone is on a social network where all his friends are, there is not an easy option to move to other So-Net. But there are always new users and users who have friends on many So-Nets like MySpace, Hi5, twitter, yahoo, etc. These people will try for sure a new service that has traction.

Yes, you are perfectly right, there are some cracks that need attention first, before trying to expand the services. I know. I had my issues with Symbian I posted about. Some things can be done more simple and user-friendly. This where Nokia should learn. Not all the users are engineers like the designers of the devices or services.

Really, Ovi needs to fix Contacts first and foremost IMO, because that's central to so many other things. Then Email. When those are working as they should, then maybe Ovi is ready to test social networking.

Well, I didn't use the application Nokia "Friend-View", but from what I see in this screen-shots, it didn't look bad at all. Maybe this will be integrated in the Plum, yes.

Do you think Nokia should create its own social service like "Facebook" or like yahoo, google and hotmail are trying to catch-up with this social networking trend?
