I use the "preview" link to view my docs, and just bookmark them.

Substitute "Doc.aspx?id=" with "View?docID=" and put "&revision=_latest" on the end of the document url (without the quotes of course). That's how I do it anyway. No way to edit unfortunately. I sometimes use Gmail and it's draft and auto save features for quick notes. Hope that helps.

You can't. The 770/N800's browser (Opera) is not supported for any of the "online office apps" sites. The best you can get is viewing your documents (but not editing them) in SoHo.

Oh, and just a heads up: There is a "search" option in the menu bar up there. It can be used to search. You know, to avoid asking the already-a-zillion-times-asked question.

The Opera browser does actually work with Google Documents, you can make it do so by going to the following URL:

http://docs.google.com/?browserok=true

Everything on this screen seems to work fine. As far as I can tell, Google Documents COULD work on Opera if they gave it a chance to do so.

The problem is that when you try to open a new document the edit screen displays fine, and probably works fine, but Google automatically forwards you away a few seconds later no matter what you do.

It's not that Opera can't work with Google documents, it's that Opera hasn't been tested with it and Google keeps trying to drive you away, even though Opera has no trouble displaying the document edit screen.

I just wish Google let people stop the autoforwards with a cookie instead of adding the stuff at the ends of URLs. I'd love to see just how well Opera copes with Google Docs, because it copes with the full AJAX version of Gmail just fine.

Do you mean "Opera does work with Google Documents" on the N800?

So how does that make Google Docs and Spreadsheets less useless on the N800 in any way?
It works, but you can't do anything; so: Great?

I agree with this post. Docs and Spreadsheets ' use is next to nothing if one can't edit them and save them locally for possible use if offline.

I don't understand why the cooperation Nokia / Google could not extend to Google Apps... unless fear of range cannibalization.

The difference is that it's a problem between Opera and Google, not Nokia and Google.

Google is blocking anyone using the Opera browser from using Google Documents, whether they're using it on a Windows PC or a N800. The point is that the hardware isn't (as far as I can tell) a problem, so Nokia has nothing to do with this problem.

If you want to complain about it, it's Opera and Google you have to complain to.

When I tried to use Google Docs on a Macintosh last year I got blocked in exactly the same way, because the Mac browser Safari was also on Google Docs' blocking list. Once I installed Firefox on the Mac, Google Docs worked absolutely fine because Firefox wasn't on Google's blocking list.

If I could install Firefox on the N800, I bet Google Docs would start working.

The Opera support boards are full of PC users who can't access Google Documents, for example:

I did a test where I changed the user-agent to what Firefox uses (by going through Privoxy), but there's some other functionality that google checks for that won't let it run (even though changing the user-agent lets it pass through just as if browserok=true is set). Haven't figured what yet, but it could be done, at least from the desktop.
