It seems pretty obvious that Mer is not just some alternative; it is the future for the N8x0 and maybe the N770 too. Almost everyone here has one of the above. They shouldn't be shoveled into a miscellaneous ditch -- Mer is the future for a lot of us.

The consensus last time was that we'll add a Mer section when Mer starts getting enough traffic to justify it.

is mer stable enough yet or does it still have a bit of bugginess to it that needs more time to iron out... i would love to put it on my N810!

I am literally running it for the first time as we speak, but so far so good.

I dug my n800 out of the closet to test it out, and everything works so far.

Edit: After installing and mucking about for a while, I can attest that at least for me (on an N800) it is very stable.

Usable...not so much. The application catalog at least isn't as well populated as what you'll find in Maemo. I'm sure there are plenty of apps that work for it though, it might just require more finagling.

As by using the install to internal sd card method you can still boot back into Maemo, I see no reason why you shouldn't give it a go.

What's the working definition for "enough traffic" as it applies to the qualification?

Consensus is an amazingly tricky word, and "enough traffic" isn't so clear. I think there is lots of Mer traffic already, and it is in the interest of tablet users to encourage more.

The most direct way to encourage Mer development is to give it a high profile by spotlighting it with its own section.

After the changing of the look of this forum, a lot of programmers don't update their programs anymore, eg, Canola. Of course, who wants to come here and needs to reseach to see what other people have to say about their programs. Just a thought, I know some people may not agree.

Enough traffic?!.... Considering how Nokia is dumping support for NIT's with constant justifications that "well Mer should have something for n8x0 users", it sounds like its made plenty of noise.
