Crap. If that's what they're offering, then I guess I'm glad I didn't get one. Sounds like Always Innovating is also always cheap. At least that's the impression I get from the others so far. But I did find the SmartQ7 comment interesting. Makes me want to try again and get one. As for the touchbook, they dropped the ball, but given the hype they generated, it won't be long before you start seeing some of the big boys offering a similar design. And those should be good quality.

They say there will be another batch in September. That will be a good measure to see how they deal with the QA problems (tipping, squeakiness, etc can be fixed in minor HW revisions, I'm more concerned about the screen). It looks more like inexperience and compromises than willful 'cheapo' approach to me, so I say (for now) there is still hope for them

Time will tell. But, if they aren't going to have their full act together until Sept ... that's going to be awfully close to the day that Apple drops their 10" tablet (or not). Seems to me that, at this point, if you haven't pre-bought the AI Touchbook, you're better off waiting until October to see what comes from Apple and Nokia (their impending netbook offering).

Is anyone on their forums? I would post that review and see what they plan to do about it. One of two things will happen. 1) they will see the error of their ways and make a better device. I would be willing to pay an extra $5 or 10 for a quality piece of kit; or 2) they will minimize the review and continue along their way making them as they are...Which will tell us everything we need to know about Always Innovating.

The pictures that I saw weren't clear, and I was wondering/worrying about the clips for the tablet portion. If those or the hinges break, while not completely useless like a traditional laptop, it would seriously compromise the functionality of the device.

Heck, I think I will go ahead and join their forum. Feel free to pile on though. Maybe if enough people mention it, they will fix it through peer pressure. They seem to be trying to be good members of the community.

Apparently they noted the QA problems and worked on them. Let's see if it got any better

It should take no more than a few days before we are ready to drop the boxes to the post office.

If you are selected for the September sending, your credit card will be processed soon and you will receive a confirmation by email. Then, a second email with the USPS tracking number will be sent after.
Also, they have a few new videos up on http://www.alwaysinnovating.com/touchbook/gallery.htm

Take it from a former product designer: that tipping issue can't be fixed with a minor hardware revision. That's gonna mean "back to the drawing board"...

Also, for you HW geeks, a teardown !

@texrat:Unlike Nokia phones or netbooks, the insides are roomy, so plenty of tinkering potential remains, for example putting in bigger counterweights or moving the battery back for a better center of gravity

I actually never designed Nokia products, so I'm speaking generally.

Look at the thickness of the top half (screen enclosure): it's hiding (and/or part of) the tipping cause.

You don't want to add ANY weights to counter that. Or at least, buyers won't want weight added.
