Nethack is best played on Telnet in my opinion.

Ancient Domain of Mystery (my favorite) has a server that you can SSH to with very little trouble.

Best advice is to look into Javispedro's excellent Drnoksnes emulator.

His Super Nintendo emulator has a fierce kick and bite to it that you wouldn't expect the tablet to handle.
any chance for a how-to-setup-and-play ADOM post?

It might be a long post, but yeah.

The most important thing to know is that there's a 1 pixel, invisible border around Xterm making the tablet's screensize 798x478.

By simply removing that border, it then gives you a big fullscreen of 80x25 characters on it. The rest is figuring out how to put a touchscreen keyboard on the screen as well, that is, unless you don't need one.

If you really would like ADOM, I can post it later tonight.

In the meantime, this is the script I use to run it:
gconftool-2 -s -t int /apps/osso/xterm/font_size 12
gconftool -s /apps/osso/xterm/scrollbar -t bool false
xkbd -geometry +65536+65991 -k /media/mmc2/Keyboards/Flat2.xkbd & xkbd -geometry +725+355 -k /media/mmc2/Keyboards/Keypad.xkbd & ssh -l addison ancardia.ath.cx
I'll explain what all that does later unless you already have a good idea.

All greek to me
I'm at the level where I understand the dirfectory structure pretty well and can do basic linux commands for getting apps and whatnot.

Adetailed description on how to get ADOM up and running, incl. server connection would be golden.

Ah nuts, I really didn't like typing that up since I don't linux either.

Well, let's take it slow.

Do you need an on-screen keyboard?

Also go to Settings-->Application Manager and download Bash2 and OpenSSh.

I'll post again in a few hours and see where we're at.

If you need Xkbd (customized touchscreen keyboard) installed, this thread could end up with 500 posts. I still don't have an easy way installing that piece on my tablet.

I already had ssh and just now downloaded bash2.
I didn't set it up the default shell yet though (only 'shell' i've used on my N810 is busybox through rootshell).

I also got dosbox and i downloaded adom 111 and unzipped it.

Setting ADOM up through rubybox it seems to launch fine in dosbox, it did a lot of initializings and I'm now browsing the FAQ in it.

I see what you mean about the potential need for a virtual keyboard..so yeah, maybe.

I was thinking, if the setup for this is somewhat involved maybe make a wiki page of the instructions as I get the feeling that there may be a few other rpg/rogue fans lurking out there amongst the NIT users).

Thanks again for taking the time to show how to do this.

an update:

adom seems to run weel; some observations:
* it seems to be veerryy slow sometimes when moving or fighting
* when moving with the dpad i seem to always take two steps instead of one
* i see the importance in getting a virtual keyboard installed...

i tried installing xkbd but i need libxm4 and that i cant seem to get installed as i keep getting application error every time. i even tried in red pill mode..but no luck...

For Xkbd, you can find the thread here:
http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=10101

You need to be able to run root in Xterm.

Download and install this little file that will get rid of that one invisible pixel edge on the screen:
http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...1&postcount=11

We're almost there.

Will you ever want to play Nethack with IBM Graphics (recommended) on Telnet?

Yeah, ADOM through Dosbox is unplayable even though I pretty much did it for six months before finding an online server.

Post back on what you have done.
