Note that Mono is covered by Microsoft patents and that you're going to see some resistance from the Linux developer community in certain circles if you develop in Mono for Maemo.

I have coded in C# for a lot of years on windows. I'm on my way to discovering new languages and platforms these days. Linux is full of great development tools (i dont get it why microsoft's .net had to be copied in-the-name-of-open-source, ms itself copies everything from others). I think you try things like python, its a great language. Than download QT's sdk and give c++ a try. Your programming wisdom will increase and you'll become a better and more serious dev imho. Since you are on the maemo forums and exploring stuff, I recommend putting C#/.net aside and you'll find a lot of "colorful" languages and "tasty" platforms to code on . Gud luck.

I got in touch again with Everaldo Canuto about a new build for Mono. Currently there is no device to develop on... and is also too expensive for the moment. I try to see what I can to assist him with a port to Maemo 5 (and the N900).
